‘சந்திரமௌலி யார்?’ – உணர்த்திய காஞ்சி மகான்! – பெரியவா அருள் பெற்ற ரா.கணபதி அண்ணா! – வேதா டி.ஸ்ரீதரன்

காஞ்சி மகாபெரியவா அருளியவற்றை நாம் கேட்டதும் படித்ததும் ஓராயிரம் என்றால்… கேட்காமலும் சொல்லாமலும் விட்டது பல்லாயிரம்! அருளிய மகான் காஞ்சி மகா பெரியவாளையும் கேட்டதைத் தொகுத்து எழுதித் தந்த ரா.கணபதி அண்ணாவையும் இந்த மகா சிவராத்திரி நாளில், நினைவு கூர்வோம். போற்றி வணங்குவோம்!

பல வருடங்களுக்கு முன்பு நடந்த சம்பவம் இது.

காஞ்சியில் அபீத் என்றொரு பையன் வசித்து வந்தான். பிறப்பால் அவன் ஒரு முஸ்லிம். இருந்தாலும், அவனுக்கு மகா பெரியவா மீது அளவு கடந்த அன்பு. மடத்தில் நடைபெறும் சந்திர மௌலீச்வர பூஜைக்காக அவன் ஆர்வத்துடன் கொன்றை மலர்கள் பறித்து வந்து கொடுப்பான். இதனால் மடத்தைச் சேர்ந்த அன்பர்கள் அவனை ‘கொன்னை அபீத்’ என்றே அழைப்பார்கள்.

மகா பெரியவா அவ்வப்போது அவனுக்குப் பழங்களும் கல்கண்டும் தந்து ஆசீர்வதிப்பார். பிறப்பால் முஸ்லிமான அவன் பிற தெய்வங்களின் பிரசாதத்தை ஏற்பது தவறு. எனவே, பெரியவா அவனுக்கு ஒருபோதும் பூஜைப் பிரசாதங்கள் கொடுக்க மாட்டார்.

இந்நிலையில் கொன்னை அபீத்தின் தந்தைக்கு இடமாறுதல் உத்தரவு வந்தது. அவர்கள் குடும்பம் காஞ்சியை விட்டு இடம் பெயர வேண்டிய சூழ்நிலை. இனிமேல் மடத்துப் பூஜைக்குப் பூக்கள் பறித்துத் தர முடியாது என்ற வருத்தம் அபீத்தை வாட்டியது.

ஊரை விட்டுக் கிளம்ப வேண்டிய நாளும் வந்தது. வழக்கம்போல அன்றைய தினமும் மலர்களைப் பறித்துப் பூக்குடலையில் எடுத்துக்கொண்டு மடத்துக்கு வந்தான் அபீத். எப்படியாவது பெரியவாளை நேரில் பார்த்து, ஊரை விட்டுக் கிளம்பும் செய்தியை அவருக்குத் தெரியப்படுத்த வேண்டும் என்பது அவனது ஆசை.

ஆனால் பாவம், அவனால் அன்று மடத்துக்குள் நுழைய முடியவில்லை. காரணம், மடத்தில் ஒரு வித்வத் ஸதஸ் நடைபெற்றுக் கொண்டிருந்தது. பெரியவாளைத் தூரத்தில் இருந்தாவது பார்த்துவிட்டுச் செல்லலாம் என்றால் அதற்கும் வழியில்லை. சின்னஞ்சிறுவனான அவனுக்கு என்ன செய்வதென்று புரியவில்லை.

இப்படியே சில நிமிடங்கள் நகர்ந்தன.

ஸதஸில் அமர்ந்திருந்த பெரியவா திடீரென மடத்து ஊழியர் ஒருவரை அழைத்து, ”ஸதஸில் பங்குபெறும் அனைவரையும் வழிவிட்டு உட்காரச் சொல்லு. வாசலில் பூக்குடலையுடன் ஒரு பையன் நின்றுகொண்டிருக்கிறான். அவனை உள்ளே வரச்சொல்லு” என்று உத்தரவிட்டார்.

ஸதஸில் அமர்ந்திருந்தவர்கள் நகர்ந்து அமர, சபையின் நடுவே நடைபாதை உருவானது. வெளியே பூக்குடலையுடன் நின்று கொண்டிருந்த அபீத்திடம் வந்த ஊழியர் அவனைப் பெரியவா அழைப்பதாகத் தெரிவித்தார். மிகுந்த கூச்சத்துடன் மடத்தின் உள்ளே நுழைந்த அபீத், பூக்குடலையைப் பெரியவா பக்கத்தில் வைத்துவிட்டு ஓரமாக ஒதுங்கி நின்றான்.

கருணையே வடிவெடுத்த பெரியவாளின் கண்கள் கொன்னை அபீத்தின்மீது பதிந்தன. மெதுவாகப் பூக்குடலைக்குள் கையை விட்ட பெரியவா கைநிறையப் பூக்களை அள்ளினார். அபீத்தைப் பார்த்துப் புன்னகைத்துக்கொண்டே, ”எனக்கோசரம்தானே கொண்டு வந்தே (எனக்காகத்தானே கொண்டுவந்தாய்)!” என்று சொல்லியவாறே அந்தப் பூக்களைத் தனது தலைமீது அபிஷேகம் செய்துகொண்டார். ஸதஸில் இருந்த அனைவரும் வைத்த கண் வாங்காமல் பார்த்துக் கொண்டிருக்க, பெரியவாளோ மீண்டும் மீண்டும் ‘எனக்கோசரம்தானே கொண்டு வந்தே’ என்று சொல்லிப் பூக்களை அள்ளி அள்ளி, தலையில் சொரிந்து கொண்டார்.

மிதமிஞ்சிய உணர்ச்சிப் பெருக்கி்ல் இருந்த அபீத்தின் கண்களில் இருந்து தாரைதாரையாகக் கண்ணீர் வழிந்தது. சபையெங்கும் ஹரஹர சங்கர ஜயஜய சங்கர கோஷம் ஒலித்தது.

நடமாடும் தெய்வமான மகாபெரியவா தன் நூறாண்டு ஜீவிதத்தில், அன்பர்களுக்கு எத்தனை எத்தனையோ விதங்களில் அனுக்கிரகம் செய்திருக்கிறார். இப்படிப்பட்ட நூற்றுக்கணக்கான சம்பவங்கள் நூல்களிலும் பத்திரிகைகளிலும் வெளிவந்துள்ளன. வெளிவராதவை ஏராளம்.

ஆனாலும், மகா பெரியவா கொன்றை மலர்களைத் தனது தலை வழியே அபிஷேகம் செய்துகொண்ட இந்தச் சம்பவம் மிகவும் விதிவிலக்கான ஒன்று. இது பெரியவாளின் இயல்புக்கு விரோதமான சம்பவம் என்பதுதான் இதன் விசேஷம்.

காஞ்சியம்பதியில் பீடாதிபதியாக வீற்றிருந்த பெரியவா சாக்ஷாத் அந்தக் கைலாசபதியேதான் என்பதில் பக்தர்கள் யாருக்கும் மாற்றுக் கருத்துக் கிடையாது. ஆனால், மகா பெரியவா தன்னை எப்போதாவது அவதார புருஷர் என்று சொல்லிக்கொண்டதுண்டா? ”இல்லவே இல்லை” என்பதே உண்மை.

சாமானியன், பாமரன், பாமர பாமரமானவன், அல்பசக்தன் முதலியவைதான் தன்னைப் பற்றிக் குறிப்பிடுவதற்குப் பெரியவா அடிக்கடி பயன்படுத்திய வார்த்தைகள். ஞானமே வடிவெடுத்த அந்த பரப்பிரம்மம், தன்னை அஞ்ஞானத்தின் மொத்த வடிவம் என்றே அழைத்துக்கொண்டது. மானுட வேடம் தாங்கி வந்த சங்கரன் இவர் என்று அன்பர்கள் அவர் பாதத்தில் விழுந்து வணங்கினால், அவரோ, தனக்குப் பணிவும் இல்லை, பக்தியும் இல்லை என்றே எப்போதும் குறைப்பட்டுக் கொண்டார்.

முட்டாள்களில் எல்லாம் பெரிய முட்டாள் என்று அவர் தன்னை வர்ணித்துக் கொண்டதுண்டு. ஆச்சார்யாள் பெயரைச் சொல்லி காலட்சேபம் செய்து வயிறு வளர்த்து வருபவன் நான் என்று குறிப்பிட்டதும் உண்டு.

இதுவாவது பரவாயில்லை. அக்னியே திரண்டெழுந்து மானுட தேகம் தரித்ததோ எனும் அளவு தூய வாழ்க்கை வாழ்ந்த அந்தத் துறவியர் திலகம் தனக்குத் தூய்மை இல்லை, ஞானம் இல்லை என்றே குறைப்பட்டுக் கொண்டது. தனக்குத் தபஸ் இல்லை, அனுஷ்டானம் குறைவு என்றும் அவர் பலமுறை சொல்லியிருக்கிறார்.

வேத தர்மத்துக்கே அதாரிடியாகத் திகழ்ந்த அவர் தனது கருத்து என்று எதையும் முன்வைத்தது இல்லை. முன்னோர்கள் போட்டுக் கொடுத்த பாதையில் நடப்பதும், மற்றவர்களை அந்தப் பாதையில் நடக்க ஊக்குவிப்பதும்தான் தனது பணி என்றே அவர் சொல்லி வந்தார்.

பெரியவாளின் அவதார சக்தியைத் திரை போட்டு மறைக்க முடியாது. அவரது அன்பும் அருளும் அளப்பரிய அவதார சக்தியும் அன்பர்களின் நெஞ்சில் நிறைந்திருப்பவை. அதேநேரத்தில் பெரியவா தனது அவதார உண்மையைத் திரை போட்டு மறைத்தே வைத்திருந்தார் என்பது பரம சத்தியம். அவர் தன்னை பகவத் அம்சம் கொண்டவராக ஒருபோதும் சொல்லிக்கொண்டது இல்லை.

ஆனாலும், எப்போதாவது விதிவிலக்கான ஒருசில சூழ்நிலைகளில் தன்னையறியாமல் அவர் தனது அவதார ரகசியத்தை வெளியிட்டதுண்டு. அத்தகைய சந்தர்ப்பங்களில் ஒன்றுதான் இந்தச் சம்பவம்.

கொன்றை மலர் சிவபெருமானுக்கு உகந்தது. தனது தலைமீது கொன்றை அணிந்தவன் என்பது சிவனைப் பற்றிய வர்ணனைகளில் அடிக்கடி இடம்பெறுவது. பரப்பிரம்மமான அவனது இருப்பை (சத்தியம்) விளக்குவதே கொன்றை மலர் என்பது ஆன்றோர் வாக்கு. கொன்றை மலரால் சிவனை வழிபடுவது பொன்மலரால் அர்ச்சனை செய்வதற்குச் சமம் என்பார்கள். அதனால்தான் கொன்றை மலரை சொர்ண புஷ்பம் என்றும் சொல்வதுண்டு. அபீத் கொண்டுவந்ததும் கொன்றை மலர்தான். சந்திரமெளலீச்வர பூஜைக்காக பறித்துவரப்பட்ட மலர்கள் அவை.

மடத்து ஆசாரங்களில், குறிப்பாக, பூஜை விஷயங்களில், மகா பெரியவா எள்ளளவும் விதிமீறிச் செயல்பட்டதே இல்லை என்பதை அனைவரும் அறிவோம். ஆனால், அன்றைய தினம் மகாபெரியவா, மடத்து பூஜைக்கான புஷ்பங்களை எடுத்துத் தனது தலை மீது அபிஷேகம் செய்துகொண்டார். அதுமட்டுமல்ல, சந்திர மௌலீச்வர பூஜைக்கான புஷ்பங்களைத் தனக்கானவை என்று சொன்னார் மகா பெரியவா. ”எனக்கோசரம்தானே கொண்டு வந்தே எனக்கோசரம்தானே கொண்டு வந்தே’’என்று அவர் திரும்பத் திரும்பக் கூறியது இன்னும் விசேஷம்.

இந்தச் சம்பவத்தை எனக்குக் கூறியவர்… ஶ்ரீ. ரா. கணபதி (அண்ணா) அவர்கள்.

”பெரியவா மீது எனக்கு பக்தி இருப்பதாக நான் சொல்லிக் கொள்கிறேன். என்னைப்போல் எத்தனையோ பேர் சொல்லிக் கொள்வதுண்டு. ஆனால், எங்கள் யாரிடமும் பெரியவா தன்னை சிவபெருமானின் அவதாரம் என்று ஒருபோதும் காட்டிக்கொண்டதில்லை. ஆனால், அந்தச் சிறுபையன் அபீத்திடம் அன்று பெரியவா மிகவும் ஸ்பஷ்டமாக, தனது அவதார ரகசியத்தை வெளிப்படுத்திக் கொண்டார். சந்திர மௌலீச்வரருக்கான புஷ்பத்தைத் தனது தலையில் சொரிந்துகொண்டு, ‘எனக்கோசரம்தானே கொண்டு வந்தே… எனக்கோசரம்தானே கொண்டு வந்தே…’ என்று கேட்டதன் மூலம், ‘நான்தாண்டா அந்த சந்திரமெளலி’ என்று அவர் எவ்வளவு தெள்ளத் தெளிவாகச் சொல்லிவிட்டார். அந்தப் பையனின் பக்திக்கு ஈடு இணையே கிடையாது என்று குறிப்பிட்டார்.

மகா சிவராத்திரியான இன்றைய தினத்தில், சாக்ஷாத் சிவபெருமானே மானுட தேகமாக வடிவெடுத்து வந்த பெரியவாளை நினைவுகூரும் பாக்கியம் கிடைத்தது விசேஷமே.

இதில் இன்னொரு விசேஷமும் உண்டு. அது இந்தச் சம்பவத்தை எனக்குச் சொன்ன திரு. ரா. கணபதி அண்ணாவைப் பற்றியது.

திரு. ரா. கணபதி ஸித்தியடைந்ததும் சிவராத்திரியன்றுதான். அவரது மரணம் ரொம்பவே விசேஷமானது. பொதுவாகவே அண்ணா அவர்கள் உணவு அருந்திய நாட்களைவிட உபவாசம் இருந்த நாட்களே அதிகம். அதிலும், தனது கடைசி காலத்தில் உணவை முழுமையாகவே தவிர்த்துவிட்டார். தினசரி ஒன்று அல்லது இரண்டு ஸ்பூன் கஞ்சியும் அவ்வப்போது வெந்நீரும்தான் அவரது ஆகாரமாக இருந்தது.

சிவராத்திரியன்று மாலை சுமார் ஐந்து மணிக்கு ஜன்னலைத் திறந்து வைக்கச் சொன்னார். அதைத்தொடர்ந்து, சுவரில் மாட்டப்பட்டிருந்த ரமணர் படத்தையும், ஜன்னல் வழியே வெட்ட வெளியையும் மாறி மாறிப் பார்த்துக் கொண்டிருநத்தார். இப்படியே சுமார் இரண்டரை மணி நேரம் கழிந்தது. இறுதியாக அருகில் இருந்த திரு. சக்திவேலைப் பார்த்து ”பை பை” என்று மெல்லிய குரலில் கூறினார். தேகத்தில் இருந்து ஆத்மா பிரிந்தது.

மனிதன் ஓர் உடையைக் களைந்து இன்னோர் உடையை உடுப்பது போல ஆத்மா ஓர் உடலை உகுத்து இன்னோர் உடலைத் தரிக்கிறது என்று கீதையில் பகவான் சொல்கிறான். அதை ஸ்பஷ்டமாக விளக்கும் விதத்தில் அமைந்தது கணபதி அண்ணாவின் மரணம்.

இந்தப் புனித நாளில் இரண்டு மேன்மக்களை நினைக்கும் பாக்கியத்தைக் கூட்டி வைத்த கருணைக்கு மீண்டும் நமஸ்காரம்.

‘Who is Chandramouli?’ –Revealed by Kanchi Mahaan : Ra Ganapathy Anna, the recipient of the grace of Periavaa – Veda T. Sridharan

If what we have heard or read about the merciful grace of Kanchi Maha Periavaa, is one thousand, what is not heard or left out untold are several thousands!  On this Maha Shivarathri day, let us reflect on Kanchi Maha Periavaa, who has showered his grace and Shri. Ra Ganapathy, who had compiled and written what he had heard.  Let us salute and worship.

This is an incident which had happened several years before.

A boy, with the name, Abeed, was residing in Kanchi.  He was a muslim, by birth.  Notwithstanding that, he had unlimited love for Maha Periavaa.  He used to pluck and bring Konrai flowers (Grand Yellow flowers of Laburnum) with great interest, for the Chandra Mouleeswara puja performed in Sri Matam.  Because of this, people in the Sri Matam, used to only call him as ‘Konnai Abeed’.

Now and then, Maha Periavaa used to bless giving him fruits and sugar candy.  As he was a muslim by birth, it was wrong on him to accept the Prasad of other Gods.  Therefore, Periavaa never gave him the Prasad of the pujas.

When things were going on like this, Konnai Abeed’s father received transfer orders.  The situation was that their family had to shift out of Kanchi.  Abeed’s heart was pained that he would not be able to pluck and offer flowers for the puja performed in Sri Matam.

The day when they had to leave the place, also arrived.  As usual, Abeed plucked the flowers and came to Sri Matam, bringing with him the flowers in a flower basket.  He desired that somehow he should meet Periavaa in person and convey the news that he was leaving the place.

Alas, he could not enter Sri Matam that day.  Reason, an assembly of Scholars was going on.  There was no way even to see Periavaa, even from a distance.  A small boy that he was, did not know what to do.

In this way, a few minutes passed by.

Suddenly, Periavaa, who was in the assembly, called out an employee of Sri Matam and instructed, “Ask all the people participating in the assembly to sit leaving a path.  There is a boy standing with a flower basket.  Ask him to come”.

With people sitting in the assembly moving, a path was formed in the middle of the assembly.  The employee reached Abeed who was with the flower basket and informed him that Periavaa was calling him.  Entering Sri Matam, feeling very shy, he kept the flower basket near Periavaa and moved to a side and stood in a corner.

The eyes of Periavaa, the embodiment of benevolent grace, fell on Abeed.  Inserting his hand into the flower basket, Periavaa took a handful of the flowers.  Looking at Abeed and smiling, he poured the flowers (like holy bathing of an idol-abhishekam) on his own head, while asking, “You brought them for my sake only no?”.  While all the people in the Sadas, were watching transfixed, Periavaa, again and again poured on himself the flowers, in heaps, while asking “You brought them for my sake only no?”.

Emotionally moved, Abeed’s eyes shed tears copiously.  The holy slogans, Hara Hara Sankara, Jaya Jaya Sankara, was heard everywhere in the assembly.

The walking God, Maha Periavaa, has bestowed his blessings on his devotees, during the hundred years of his lifetime, in several different ways.  This kind of hundreds of incidents have appeared in books and magazines.  What have not come out, are much more.

This event of Maha Periavaa, pouring the Konrai flowers on his own head, is an exceptional one.  The specialty is that this was an event which was alien to the nature of Periavaa.

There is no difference in opinion among the devotees that Periavaa, who was the pontiff of the Kanchi, was indeed the Lord of Kailash.  However, has Maha Periavaa himself mentioned that he was an incarnate any time?   The truth is, ‘Never’.

Ordinary, Low person, weak (Pamaran, Parama Pamaran, Alpasaktha), etc., are the words he frequently used to describe himself.  The Parabrahmam, who was the personification of highest knowledge, called himself to be only the embodiment of ignorance.  If devotees, fell at his feet, as he was indeed Shankara, who has come in the human form, he used to always find shortcomings with himself that he was not having humility and devotion.

He has even described himself as the biggest idiot among all idiots.  He has also mentioned that he was nurturing his body, in the name of Acharya and rendering sermons.

Even this was ok.  He, the leader of saints, who lead such a pure life as could be wondered whether the Lord of Fire himself, has risen up and come in human form, used to complain about himself that he did not have purity or possess higher knowledge.  He has mentioned several times that he did not have ascetism (Thapas) and was short on discipline.

He, who lived as the authority for Vedic Dharma, never put forth anything as his own opinion.  He used to be saying that it was only his duty to follow the path laid down by the fore-fathers and to motivate others to follow that path.

The power of incarnation of Periavaa cannot be concealed with a screen. Hearts of devotees are filled with his love and unbridled grace and power of incarnation.  At the same time, it is indeed the truth that Periavaa had concealed the truth of his incarnation.  He had never claimed himself to be a part of the divine.

However, on very few exceptional moments, without his own knowledge, he has revealed the secret of his incarnation.  This event was one such.

Konrai flowers (Grand Yellow flowers of Laburnum) are much desired for Lord Shiva. In the descriptions about Shiva, it is frequently mentioned that He is one who adorns the Konnai flower on his head.  It is the statement of erudite scholars that Konrai flower, indeed, explains the truth about His presence, the Para Brahmam.  It is said that worshipping Him with Konrai flowers is equal to worshipping with golden flowers.  That is why, Konrai flower is also referred to as Golden flower (Swarna Pushpam).  What Abeed brought were also, Konrai flowers.  They were flowers plucked and brought for the purpose of performing puja to God, Chandra Mouleeswara.

All of us are aware that Maha Periavaa never did anything in violation of the rules of Sri Matam, especially, in the matters of performing puja.  But, on that day, he poured on himself the flowers, meant for the puja of Sri Matam.  Not only that, Maha Periavaa referred to the flowers meant for the puja of Chandra Mouleeswara, as brought for himself. It is still more significant that he repeatedly said, “You brought these for me only no?”.

The person who narrated this incident to me was…. Shri. Ra Ganapathy (Anna).

He said, “I claim to be having devotion to Periavaa.  Many others also claim like me.  However, he has never showed himself to be an incarnation of Lord Shiva to any of us.   But he revealed the secret of his incarnation, very clearly, to that small boy, Abeed.  By asking, “You brought these for my sake only no?”, while pouring the flowers on himself, how clearly he has conveyed that he was indeed that very Chandra Mouleeswara.  There is no equal or parallel to the devotion of that boy”.

It is significant that on this day of Shivarathri, we could get an opportunity to reflect on Periavaa, the Lord Shiva, who had come in human form.

There is one more significance in this.  That pertains to Shri. Ra Ganapathy, who narrated this incident to me.

Shri Ra Ganapathy also attained the lotus feet on a Shivarathri only.  His death was very special.  Generally, the days he observed fasting, were more than the days he ate food.  He had avoided food almost entirely towards his last days.  His diet used to be only a couple of spoons of porridge and hot water now and then.

On the day of Shivarathri, he asked the window to be opened.  He kept staring alternately, the picture of Ramana Maharishi, which was hung in the wall and the outer space.  In this way, about 2½ hours passed.  In the end, in a soft voice, he said, “Bye Bye” to Sakthivel,  who was near him.  His soul left the body.

Bhagawan mentions in Gita that the soul discards one body and enters another, just like man removes one cloth and wears another.  Shri Ganapathy Anna’s death happened to explain that very clearly.

Humble namaskarams again for providing the opportunity to remember these two great souls on this holy day.
