நாகசாமியை மன்னிச்சுடுங்கோ!
காஞ்சி மகானின் சங்கர மடத்தில் அவ்வப்போது அபூர்வ நிகழ்ச்சிகள் நடப்பதுண்டு. அப்படிப்பட்ட ஒரு நிகழ்ச்சியைப் பற்றிய விவரங்களைத் தான் இப்போது படிக்கப் போகிறீர்கள். இதை எனக்குச் சொன்னவர் திரு. பிச்சாண்டி ஐ.ஏ.எஸ். அவர்கள்.
திரு. எம்.ஜி.ஆர். முதலமைச்சராக இருந்த போது அவருடைய நேர்முக உதவியாளராக பிச்சாண்டி இருந்தார். அப்போது உடலில் ஏற்பட்டிருந்த கோளாறுகள் காரணமாக திரு. எம்.ஜி.ஆர். அவர்களால் சரியாகப் பேச முடியவில்லை. திரு. எம்.ஜி.ஆர். அவர்களுக்கு அப்போதெல்லாம் ஆன்மீக விஷயங்களில் உறுதுணையாக இருந்தவர் ‘இதயம் பேசுகிறது’ மணியன் அவர்கள். காஞ்சி மகானை நேரில் பார்க்க வேண்டும் என்று முதல்வர் தமது விருப்பத்தைத் தெரியப்படுத்திய உடன், மணியன் உடனே அதற்கு செயல்வடிவம் கொடுத்து முதல்வரையும் அவரது துணைவியார் ஜானகி அம்மாளையும் அழைத்துக் கொண்டு, காரில் காஞ்சி மாநகருக்குப் புறப்பட்டுவிட்டார். ஆன்மீக விஷயமாயிற்றே, தனது தேவை அங்கே இருக்காது என்று நினைத்த பிச்சாண்டி அவர்கள் முதல்வருடன் செல்லத் தயங்கினார். ஆனால் முதல்வர் விடவில்லை. தனது உதவியாளர் எந்த சந்தர்ப்பத்திலும் தன்னுடன் இருக்க வேண்டும் என்று நினைத்து, அவரையும் தன்னுடன் அழைத்துக் கொண்டார்.
ஏற்கனவே முதல்வர் அங்கே வரும் விஷயம் ஸ்ரீ மடத்திற்குத் தெரியப்படுத்தி விட்டதால், மகான் சற்றே உடல் நலம் குன்றியிருந்தாலும் முதல்வரைப் பார்க்க அனுமதி அளித்திருந்தார். மகானுக்கு உடல் நிலையில் ஏதோ மாற்றம் என்பதைக் கேள்விப்பட்டுத் தான் முதல்வர் இந்தச் சந்திப்புக்குத் திட்டமிட்டார்.
மகான் அமர்ந்திருக்க, அவருக்கு எதிரே சற்று தூரத்தில் முதல்வர் தன் துணைவியாரோடும், மணியனோடும் அமர்ந்திருந்தார். செயலாளர் பிச்சாண்டியோ சற்று தள்ளி — போலீஸ் பாதுகாப்பு வளையத்துக்கு அப்பால் — இருந்தார். இதைக் கவனித்த முதல்வர் திரும்பி, அவரை சைகை காட்டி உள்ளே வரும்படி அழைத்தார். திரு. பிச்சாண்டி உள்ளே போக அடி எடுத்து வைத்த போது அருகே இருந்த காவல்காரர் அவரைத் தடுத்து நிறுத்தினார். முதல்வர் வரச் சொல்கிறார் என்று அவர் சொன்ன பின்னால் தான், காவல்காரர் அவரை உள்ளே அனுமதித்தார். பிச்சாண்டியைத் தன் அருகே அமர்த்திக் கொண்ட முதல்வரைப் பார்த்து மகான், “உங்கள் பி.ஏ. வா ?” என்று கேட்க ‘ஆமாம்’ என்று தலையை ஆட்டினார் முதல்வர். அங்கிருந்தபடியே தன் வணக்கத்தைப் பிச்சாண்டி தெரிவிக்க, தனது திருக் கரத்தை உயர்த்தி அவரை ஆசீர்வதித்தார் காஞ்சி மகான்.
பிறகு முதல்வர் மகானைப் பார்த்து, “உங்கள் தேகம் எப்படி இருக்கிறது ?” என்று கேட்டார்.
தேகம் என்று அவர் கேட்டது மகானுக்கு, ‘தேசம்’ என்பதுபோல் ஒலிக்க,
“தேசத்திற்கு என்ன, நன்றாகத் தானே இருக்கிறது” என்றார் மகான்.
முதல்வர் பிச்சாண்டியைத் திரும்பிப் பார்க்க அவர் மகானிடம் விளக்கினார்.
“தங்களது தேகம் எப்படி இருக்கிறது என்று முதல்வர் கேட்கிறார்”.
“அதற்கென்ன, நன்றாகத்தான் இருக்கிறது” என்றார் மகான் லேசாகப் புன்முறுவல் செய்தபடி. ஆனால் அப்போது திடீரென இவர்கள் பேச்சில் குறுக்கே பாய்ந்த மடத்து சிப்பந்திகள், “பெரியவாளுக்கு உடம்பு ரொம்ப முடியல்லே. மருந்தே சாப்பிட மாட்டேங்கிறார். முதல் மந்திரி தான் சொல்லணும்” என்றார்கள்.
“சொல்லுங்கள், நான் என்ன செய்ய வேண்டும் ?” முதல்வர் மகானிடம் கேட்கிறார். அப்போதும் அவர் தன் உடம்பைப் பற்றிப் பேசவில்லை.
“எனக்கு நீங்கள் மூன்று காரியங்களைச் செய்வதாக வாக்குறுதி தர வேண்டும்” என்றார்.
“சொல்லுங்கள், செய்கிறேன்”. முதல்வர் உணர்ச்சிவசப்பட்டு பதில் சொல்கிறார்.
“முதல் விஷயம் – தமிழ் நாட்டிலே பல கோவில்கள்ளே விளக்கே எரியறது இல்லை. விளக்கு எரிய நீங்கள் ஏற்பாடு பண்ணனும்.” முதல்வர் தலையாட்டுகிறார்.
“இரண்டாவதாக, பல கோவில்கள் மிக மோசமான நிலையில் இருக்கு. அதையெல்லாம் ஒழுங்குபடுத்தி கும்பாபிஷேகம் நடத்தணும்.”
“செய்து விடுகிறேன்”
மூன்றாவது விஷயம் என்ன என்பதைச் சொல்ல மகான் சற்றுத் தயங்குகிறார்.
முதல்வர் அவரது முகத்தை உற்றுப் பார்த்த வண்ணம் இருக்கிறார்.
“நாகசாமியை மன்னிச்சுருங்கோ” என்கிறார். நாகசாமி யார் என்பதைப் பற்றி இங்கே சொல்லியாக வேண்டும்.
பழங்கால கோவில்கள், சின்னங்கள் போன்றவைகளைப் பற்றி ஆராய்ந்து புதிய புதிய தகவல்களை சேகரித்து வந்த ஒரு அதிகாரி. தொல்பொருள் ஆராய்ச்சித் துறையைச் சேர்ந்தவர். தொடர்ச்சியாக அவர் கண்டுபிடிக்கும் பல பழமையான விஷயங்களை, நேரடியாக பத்திரிகைகளுக்குச் செய்தியாகத் தொகுத்துக் கொடுத்து விடுவார். பத்திரிகைகளில் பார்த்துத்தான் முதல்வரே அவைகளைப் பற்றி அறிந்து கொள்வார். முதல்வருக்கு இது தம்மை உதாசீனப் படுத்தும் செயல் என்கிற எண்ணம். அரசுக்குச் சொல்லி விட்டுத்தானே அதை வெளியில் சொல்ல வேண்டும். இதனால் முதல்வர் நாகசாமியை தற்காலிகமாக பதவி நீக்கம் செய்துவிட்டார். அதை நாகசாமி மகானிடம் சொல்லவும் இல்லை. முதலமைச்சரிடம் எதுவும் கேட்கவும் இல்லை…..
முதல்வர் ஒரிருநிமிடம் மௌனம் சாதிப்பதைக் கண்ட மகான் பேசினார்:
“நாகசாமி பல கோவில்களைப் பத்தி விவரமா ஆராய்ச்சி செய்து எவ்வளவோ விஷயங்களை நாட்டுக்காகத் தெரியப்படுத்தி இருக்கார். அவர் ஆராய்ச்சி பண்ணலேன்னா பல விஷயங்கள் வெளியிலே தெரியாமலேயே போய் இருக்கும்.”
‘மன்னித்து விடுகிறேன்’ என்பது போல் முதல்வர் தலையை ஆட்டினார்.
மிகவும் சிறப்பு வாய்ந்த இந்தச் சந்திப்பில் தமிழ்நாட்டுக் கோவில்களுக்கு நிறைய நன்மைகள் ஏற்பட்டன என்பதுடன், தன் உடல் நிலையைப் பற்றியே கவலைப் படாமல், மகான் எதைப் பற்றியெல்லாம் கவலைப் பட்டார் என்பதும் நாம் தெரிந்து கொள்ள வேண்டிய விஷயம்.

It’s quite common to witness rare incidents in Sri Kanchi Mahan’s Shankara Matam. You are going to read the details of one such incident here. The person who told me this is Mr Pichandi IAS. When Sri MGR was the chief minister, Mr Pichandi served as his personal assistant. At that time, Sri MGR couldn’t speak properly due to some physical illness. One person who was offering a big support to MGR in religious affairs at that time, was ‘Idhayam Pesugirathu’ Manian. When MGR expressed his desire to have a Darshan of Kanchi Mahan, Mr Manian immediately materialized it and started for Kancheepuram along with MGR and Mrs Janaki in a car. Mr Pichandi hesitated to accompany them, thinking that his presence wouldn’t be needed there, as it’s a religious matter. But the Chief Minister was not willing to leave him behind. Thinking that his personal assistant should be present at all situations, MGR took Mr Pichandi along with him.
Having been informed already about the visit of the chief minister, the Mahan has consented for a Darshan inspite of his ill health. Actually the chief minister has planned this trip only after hearing about some changes in the Mahan’s health condition. While the Mahan was seated at a place, the chief minister was sitting opposite to him at a distance, along with his wife and Mr.Manian. Mr Pichandi was at a little distance, standing away from the security ring. Noticing this, the chief minister gestured him to come near them. Mr Pichandi took a step to go inside but was stopped by a security person. He was allowed in only after he informed him about the chief minister’s call. The Mahan, on seeing the chief minister asking Mr Pichandi to sit beside him, questioned him if he was his PA, for which the CM nodded in assent. Mr Pichandi conveyed his pranams from there itself and the Mahan raised his hand and blessed him.
Then the chief minister looked at the Mahan and asked him, “How is your Dhegam (body)?” meaning how his health is.
Mahan misheard Dhegam as Desam (country) and so replied, “Well, what about the country? It is fine as always, of course.”
The chief minister turned and looked back at Pichandi, who then explained it to the Mahan, “Thechief minister is enquiring about your Dhegam.”
The Mahan replied with a smile, “What about it? It is just fine.” At this juncture, the aides of Periyava suddenly intervened and complained, “Periyava is not feeling well. But He refuses to take medicines at all. Only the chief minister has to insist him to take it.”
The chief minister asked the Mahan, “Tell me .What shall I do now?” Even then, the Mahan didn’t speak about his body condition.
“You should promise me to do two things,” he said.
“Tell me. I will do,” replied the CM emotionally.
“The first thing is, a lot of temples in Tamilnadu are dark without a lamp being lit there by anybody. I want you to arrange for lighting lamps in all temples.”
“Secondly, many temples are in a dilapidated state. I want you to renovate them all and perform Kumbabishekam”.
“Will do it for sure.”
The Mahan hesitated a bit to utter the third matter.
The chief minister kept staring at His face sharply.
Then the Mahan said, “Pardon Nagasami.” Here it’s necessary to explain who Nagasami is. He was an official who researched about ancient temples and symbols and collected new details about them. He belonged to the Archeology department. He would compile all the ancient details that he collected through his continuous research and would publish them in newspapers and magazines directly. The chief minister himself would come to know about them only through newspapers. This irked the CM who considered it as a sign of disrespect to him. He ought to inform the government first and then should give them to the newspaper. So the chief minister suspended Nagasami temporarily. Nagasami didn’t inform the Mahan about this. He didn’t ask the CM about it either.
Seeing the CM observing silence for a minute or two, the Mahan started to speak:
“Nagasami has done elaborate research about various temples and has given forth a great contribution to the nation. A lot of valuable details would’ve been hidden from the eye of the world, if only he had not conducted those researches.”
The CM nodded his head as if “I will pardon him.”
What we ought to know here is that this significant meeting, apart from bringing about a lot of benefits for the temples of Tamilnadu, tells us about the matters that the Mahan was worried about, as against worrying about His own deteriorating health.
