Thanks to Sri H.Raja to bring one small incident from the loot that have been going on in TN for the past several decades. There are hundreds of such things happening in TN – thanks to all dravidian governments who took no action on any of these. Although Supreme Court has ruled in Chidambaram Natarajar Kovil case that it should not be brought under HR&CE, we want the same ruling to be made applicable for ALL temples. Glad that politicians and Hindu-supporters like Sri Raja are taking up these issues to protect our temples.
Moguls invaded us and looted from all Hindu temples – that is history. If we compare to what is currently going on, we just made moguls look very small.
Remember, when you go to any temple that comes under HR&CE, do not put a penny in the hundi – put your contribution to sivacharyar’s/bhattar’s plate.
I hope BJP along with other Hindu activists join hands to fight this together.

The goal of TWS is to retrieve and restore the temple sanctity, divinity and practices. The local community should manage the temples. A ‘secular’ Government has no role in running Hindu Temples. As indeed the Government does not and has no role in managing other religious places.
Each temple has its unique lore, traditions – these must be preserved. Only the local community who understand and are part of the tradition can preserve them, hold them in trust for future generations.
There are seven sacred functions that have to be carried out by the custodians of the Temple.
Worship & preservation of temples as per agama sāstrās and traditions
Anna dhānam – not to be confused with what govt is now doing inside a few temples which is against agama sastras.
Veda pātashala, agama Patasalas, & promotion of traditional arts and temple related sciences
Facilities and dignified livelihood for priests & other temple sevaks
Chatrams for worshippers & pilgrims
Goshālās associated with every temple
Satsangs & Pravachanam to enlighten Hindus on their traditions & culture.
In current times, when Hinduism is under attack from other religious money bags, propagation of Hindu thought and values is not even in the agenda of temples, which are quite rich to carry out such programs.
The TN Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Act 1959 and its predecessor acts, have permitted unbridled loot of temple wealth, destruction of temple architecture and neglect of worship. The HR&CE 1959 act itself is unconstitutional.

Working on a petition to be filed in the SC to declare the HR&CE Act 1959, null and void.
You are indeed doing a great job! It is painful that temple lands are encroached upon and funds misused and misappropriated. Loss of idols and even temples which stood for thousands of years… only solution is to get them out of HRCE. But who will bell the cat?
What Mr.H.Raja spoke echoes the feelings of many devotees. Even in popular temples where pilgrims throng, at regular intervals some painting work gets carried on. First of all the beauty of the original black stone structure is spoiled when painted. The stones are supposed to breathe which gets arrested if covered by chemicals. But this is done to fill the pockets of the influential politicians who get the regular painting contract. Also I have found that some idols get shifted to a different venue. (Example – Angaraha Murthy of Vaitheeswaeankoil is shifted from his original place near Sanctum Santorum of Vaidhyanatha swami and placed outside under a new roof). How can there be meddling with idols consecrated thousands of years ago as per Agama. What happened to the precious jewels which used to be laid inside by our ancestors before consecration?
When a outer entrance gopuram of Kalhasthi fell down the news report said lots of precious gems were inside it. But no information was available later on.
The pity is that Hindus feel shy of calling themselves Hindus. We Hindus by and large do not smear vibhuthi, kumkum or namam on our foreheads. Still worse, women do not apply kumkumam at all. In this respect, uneducated masses are far better than the educated ones, for they follow scrupulously the ancient dharma by by smearing turmeric and kumkum. Even in independent India, the educational system is largely on the pattern formulated by that crafty Macaulay, which instills inferiority complex in the students’ minds that is anything ancient India is inferior. Unless we support a movement that is for Bharath, only anti-nationals will have the last laugh.
Let me share this. In AP, CM N Chandra Babu, brought a law that non Hindus should not use the properties of temple and all Muslims and Christians who were enjoying all these years with huge rent due were replace with Hindus. He also established a separate Dept. for Brahmin Welfare, no other Govts. in India dared to do so since Independence. Hats off Babu garu.
I have seen this loot first in 1972 when i went to Palani and when the Hundi was opened. DMK was in power . EO (executive Officer) was DMK nominee. In 1990s (when i was aborad and used to come annually home) i used to help a dilapidated but famous temple with small works not exceeding Rs.40,000 such as re-laying ceiling to prevent rain seeping in to main hall, cementing walls of navagraha sannidhi, in-laying marble stones with some slokas to prevent people from rubbing oiled hands on walls, electricity repair etc. In 2000 on wards, EO started asking for same amount of repair to his pocket for any temple works. WORSE STILL, the tenants on this temple property (christians and muslims) owe each 2 lakhs to 1.2 crore in rent as per Court notice put up. These days, the EO wants a minimum of Rs.100 PER DAY from plate collections from Sivachariar otherwise he write to HRCE bad things and sacks the priest from temple. Another notable thing is that for 3 occasions (Pradosham, Sankataharachathurthi and Karthika) each month; HR&CE pays money for procession of Siva, Ganapathy and Subrahmanya, That never takes place. On record money is paid and received but shared between the two. This may be true across many temples. Government employees have become extremely greedy. Even in crematorium one has to pay speed money to get a slot. As long as multi-party democracy exists, politicians need votes, they will swindle wherever they can and spend wherever they get votes. No simple solution. But beats to understand why only Hindu temples under Govt?
