சாஸ்திர விதிகள் சிலவற்றுக்கு சாஸ்திரத்திலேயே விலக்குத் தந்திருப்பதும் மநுஷ்ய மனோபாவத்தைப் புரிந்து கொண்டு, நீக்குப்போக்கோடு அதை அபிவிருத்தி அடையப் பண்ணுவதற்குத்தான். ஸத்யம், அஹிம்ஸை மாதிரியான பெரிய தர்மங்களை, கொள்கைகளைக்கூட அதைவிடப் பெரிய ஸத்யமான ஒன்றுக்காக, ஒரு நிர்பந்தத்தில் கொஞ்சம் விட்டுக் கொடுக்கவும் நம் சாஸ்திரம் இடம் தருகிறது. ‘விட்டு கொடுப்பது’ என்று வெளியிலே தோன்றினாலும், உள்ளே பார்த்தால் இதுதான் உண்மையில் தர்மத்தின் ‘லெட்டரை ‘மட்டுமில்லாமல் ‘ஸ்பிரிட்’டைக் காப்பாற்றிக் கொடுப்பது என்று தெரியும். திருஷ்டாந்தமாக ஒரு அபலை ஸ்த்ரீயைப் போக்கிரிகளிடமிருந்து ரக்ஷிக்க வேண்டியபோது ‘வாய் ஸத்ய’த்துக்கு ஒரு ‘அமென்ட்மென்ட்’ போட்டு

“ஸத்யம் பூதஹிதம்”

– எது ஜீவ ஜந்துக்களுக்கு நல்லது பண்ணுமோ அதுதான் ஸத்யம் – என்று அதன் ஸ்பிரிட்டைக் காட்டி சாஸ்திரமாக எழுதி வைத்தார்கள். – ஜகத்குரு ஸ்ரீ சந்திரசேகரேந்திர சரஸ்வதி ஸ்வாமிகளின் அருள் மொழிகள்

The scriptures have given some exemptions in the case of certain rules of conduct, taking into consideration human nature and with an intention of improving it by providing some flexibility. Even noble virtues like Truth and Non-violence can be given up, according to our scriptures, in favor of a larger Truth under compelling circumstances. Though apparently the code of conduct has given up, a deeper scrutiny will show us that actually Dharma, in such circumstances, is being protected not only in letter but also in spirit. For example, in a situation where a helpless woman has to be protected from anti-social elements, an amendment was made to ‘Truth’ (“Sathyam Boothahitham”) and the scriptures stated that Truth could only be whatever is conducive to the welfare of  all living beings, thus focusing on the actual spirit of the Truth. – Jagadguru Sri Chandrasekharendra Saraswathi Swamigal
