“பூர்வை: ஆசரித: குர்யாத்” என்றால் “உன்னுடைய பூர்விகர்கள் எப்படிப் பண்ணினார்களோ, அப்படியே நீயும் பண்ணு” என்று அர்த்தம். அதாவது சிகை, ஸூத்ரம், புண்ட்ரம், ஸமயாசாரம் எல்லாவற்றிலும் உன் மூதாதைகள் கடைப்பிடித்த ஆசாரங்களையே நீயும் கைக் கொள்ளு” என்று அர்த்தம்.

அந்யதா பதிதோ பவேத்

இப்படிச் செய்யாமல், அதாவது தன் குலமுன்னோர் வழக்கைப் பின்பற்றாமல், வேறு மார்க்கத்தில் போனால் வேறுவித வாழ்க்கை முறைகளையும் வெளி அடையாளங்களையும் மேற்கொண்டால், அதாவது தன் மதத்திலிருந்தும் கிளை ஸம்பிரதாயத்திலுருந்தும் வேறொன்றுக்குப் போனால் அப்படிச் செய்கிறவன் பதிதன் ஆகிவிடுவான் என்று சொல்லியிருக்கிறது.

பதனம் என்றால் விழுவது. பதிதன் என்றால் ‘விழுந்தவன்’ என்று அர்த்தம். அதாவது ஸன்மார்க்கத்தில் நடந்து போகாமல், அதோகதியில் விழுந்து விட்டவன் என்று அர்த்தம். பாதிவ்ரத்யத்தில் (கற்பு நெறியில்) தப்பாகப் போனவர்களைப் பதிதை என்பார்கள். அதைத்தான் சறுக்கிக் கொண்டு விழுந்தவள் என்ற அர்த்தத்தில் ‘சறுக்கி’, ‘சிறுக்கி’ என்பது. “வழுக்கி விழுந்தவர்கள்” என்று நவீன எழுத்தாளர்கள் சொல்கிறார்கள். இவள் புருஷனுக்கு த்ரஹோம் செய்கிற மாதிரி ஈஸ்வரனுக்கு, பரம புருஷனுக்கு த்ரோஹம் செய்து கீழ்லோகத்துக்கும், இப்போதைவிட ரொம்ப ஹீன ஜன்மாவுக்கும் விழுந்து விடுகிறவன்தான் பதிதன். பூர்விகர்களின் ஆசாரப்படி செய்யாதவன் இப்படிப்பட்ட பதிதன் ஆகிவிடுகிறான். லௌகிகத்திலும் பல தினுஸில் கஷ்டப்பட்டுக் கொண்டு, ஆத்மாவையும் உசத்திக்கொள்ள முடியாத கஷ்ட ஜீவனமாகவே அவனுடைய வாழ்க்கை இருக்கும். – ஜகத்குரு ஸ்ரீ சந்திரசேகரேந்திர ஸரஸ்வதி ஸ்வாமிகளின் அருள்மொழிகள்

“Poorvaihi Aachaaritaha Kuryaath” – that is the sastras command us to follow the path of our ancestors in all the matters mentioned – Sigai (Kudumi), Soothram, Pundram, and Samayaachaaram.

“Anyathaa Pathito Bhaveth”

In other words, if a person deviates from the path laid down by his ancestors and adopts a different way of life and external symbols, follows a different religion or branch, he becomes a Pathitan. Pathanam means to fall. Pathitan means the fallen one. The one who has fallen from the righteous path into the deepest depth. A woman who has betrayed her husband is termed a Pathithai. The modern writers tend to use the term “the fallen one” or the one who has slipped and fell down. If a Pathithai is the one who has betrayed her husband, a Pathitan is one who has betrayed Eswara, the Divine Supreme and consequently has fallen to the deepest of hell and the most pitiable of births. The person who does not follow the traditions of his ancestors suffers so.
