This is a repeat post. It doesn’t matter how many times we repeat such posts – it is worth every time.This is a  simple yet powerful message to all of us. Message is very clear from Periyava – those who do sandhyavandhanam and other anushtanams do not need to run around to see me (the ultimate brahman) – I will go to them and bless!

Again, this blog is all about “doing” – not just “talking”. We want all of our readers to do their scripture-defined karmanushtanams  without fail to qualify ourselves to be the devotees of Periyava. Later on we can say “Periyava said this, that etc…” – until then, none of us are qualified to quote anything about mahans. When Periyava with million things to do in a single day found time to do His anushtanams, why can’t we do when we don’t have anything better in life to do? This is my personal opinion. I know I am opening a can of worms.

பிராமணன் தன் கடமையை ஒழுங்காகச் செய்தால்நானே நேரில் சென்று அனுக்ரஹம் செய்கிறேன்”.

1963-ம் வருஷம். ஸ்ரீ பெரியவர்கள் மருதாநல்லூரில் Camp செய்திருந்தார்கள். கும்பகோணம் ஸ்ரீ கும்பேச்வர ஆலயத்தில்திருப்பாவை-திருவெம்பாவை மகாநாடு வெகுவிமரிசையாக நடைபெற்றது. அப்போது பக்தவத்சலம் தமிழ்நாட்டுமுதல்வராக இருந்தார்..மதுரை மீனாக்ஷிகோயிலைதிருப்பணிசெய்தபி.டி.ராஜன்,
தமிழ்நாட்டு முதல்வர்முதலிய பெரிய பிரமுகர்கள் விஜயம் செய்திருந்தனர்.

ஸந்த்யாகாலம். ஸ்ரீ பெரியவர்கள் அனுக்ரஹபாஷணம் கேட்க வேண்டும் என்ற ஆசையில் ஸ்ரீ பெரியவர்கள்
அருகில் அமர்ந்து இருந்தேன்.

ஸ்ரீ பெரியவா உபன்யாஸம் செய்யத் தொடங்கும் நேரம். என்னைப் பார்த்து, ஆசமனம் செய்வது போல் தன் கையை வைத்துக் கொண்டு என்னை வெளியே செல்லுமாறு சைகைகாட்டினார்கள்.

‘இது ஸந்த்யாகாலம். உன் கடமை இப்போது ஸந்த்யாவந்தனம் செய்வதுதான். என் உபன்யாசத்தை
கேட்பதற்காக, உரிய காலத்தில் ஸந்த்யாவந்தனம் செய்யாமல் இருக்காதே’ என்று சைகை மூலம் எனக்கு
உணர்த்தினார்கள். நானும் திருக்குளத்தில் ஸந்த்யை செய்யச் சென்று விட்டேன்.

அன்று இரவு பத்து மணிக்கு நாங்கள் அழைக்காமலேயே, மேலக்காவிரியிலுள்ள எங்கள் க்ருஹத்துக்குத்
தானாகவே வந்து ஒரு மணி நேரம் பரமானுக்ரஹம் செய்தார்கள்.

பிராம்மணனுக்கு ஸந்த்யாவந்தனம் முதலிய கர்மாக்கள்தான்முக்யமானது; வேறு எதுவும் உயர்ந்தது இல்லை.

‘பிராமணன் தன் கடமையை ஒழுங்காகச் செய்தால் நானே நேரில் சென்று அனுக்ரஹம் செய்கிறேன்.
தர்மத்தை ஒழுங்காக செய்யாதவன்தான் என்னைத் தேடிவர வேண்டும்’ என்ற உண்மையை உலகிற்கு
இதன் வாயிலாக வெளிப்படுத்தினார்கள்.

 It was in the year 1963. Sri Maha Periyava was camping in Marudanallur. The Tiruppavai-Tiruvempavai conference was held in a grand manner in the Kumbeswara Temple, Kumbakonam. Sri Bhatavatsalam was then the chief minister of Tamil Nadu. P.T.Rajan who did the Thiruppani (holy works) of Madurai Meenakshi Temple and the Tamil Nadu chief minister visited the place. It was the time of Sandhya Kaalam (dusk). I was sitting near Periyava with a desire to listen to his Anugraha Bhaashanam (blessed speech). When he was about to commence his upanyasam, Maha Periyava looked at me, folded his palms as if doing Achamana (drinking water as purification in a Hindu ritual) and gestured me to go out, thus making me realize that I should not skip my Sandhya Vandanam at Sandhya Kaalam for listening to an upanyasam. I went forthwith to do the Sandhya Vandanam at the holy pond.

At ten o’ clock that night, without our inviting him, he visited our home in the MelaKaveri (west of Kaveri) and did Paramaanugraham for more than an hour. He thus made explicit the truth that for a Brahmin, the karmas such as Sandhya Vandanam are the most important; there is nothing loftier than them. “If a Brahmin does his duties regularly, I shall call on him personally and give my anugraham (blessings). He who does not do his dharma properly need to come seeking me.
