தர்மத்தை நமக்கெல்லாம் நடத்திக்காட்ட வந்த ஸ்ரீராமசந்த்ரமூர்த்தியே இந்த ப்ரேத ஸம்ஸ்காரத்தை விசேஷமாகச் செய்து காட்டியிருக்கிறார். ஜடாயு மாதிரியான ஒரு பக்ஷிக்குக்கூட அவரே ஸம்ஸ்காரம் செய்திருக்கிறார். அதுமட்டுமில்லை, வாலியையும் பரம வைரியான ராவணனையுங்கூட அவர் வதைத்தவுடன் அங்கதனையும் விபீஷணனையும் கொண்டு அவர்களுக்கு ஒரு குறைவுமில்லாமல் தஹனம் பண்ணச் செய்திருக்கிறார். ஏனென்றால் அந்த சரீரங்களுக்குள் இருந்த மனஸ்தான் அவற்றை துஷ்டத்தனமாக நடத்திற்று. உயிரோடுகூட அந்த மனஸ் வெளியேறிய அப்புறம் ஸ்வயமாகக் கெடுதல் இல்லாத, பகவானுடைய அற்புத ஸ்ருஷ்டியான அந்த உடம்புகளுக்கும் உரிய மரியாதையைச் செய்வதில் ராமரே கண்ணும் கருத்துமாக இருந்து, யதோக்தமாக ஸம்ஸ்காரம் பண்ணுவித்திருக்கிறார். க்ருஷ்ண பரமாத்மாவும் கௌரவர்கள் உள்பட எல்லாருக்கும் குருக்ஷேத்ரத்தில் அந்திம ஸம்ஸ்காரம் பண்ணுவித்து, அப்புறம் த்ருதராஷ்ட்ரனையும் பாண்டவர்களையும் கங்காதீரத்துக்கு அழைத்துக் கொண்டு போய் தர்ப்பணாதிகள் செய்வித்திருக்கிறார்.

ஆனதால், அநாதை ப்ரேத ஸம்ஸ்கார விஷயத்தில் கவனக்குறைவாக இருப்பது நம்முடைய ஹிந்து ஸமூஹத்துக்கு உள்ள பெரிய தோஷம் — மன்னிக்க முடியாத தோஷம். இனிமேலாவது இதற்கு ஒரு ஏற்பாடு பண்ணிப் பிராயச்சித்தம் தேடிக் கொள்ள வேண்டும். – ஜகத்குரு ஸ்ரீசந்திரசேகரேந்திர சரஸ்வதி ஸ்வாமிகளின் அருள்மொழிகள்

Even Lord Sri Ramachandra Moorthy, who chose to be born into this world to show us the path of righteousness, performed the final rites of the Bird, Jatayu. Even after He slayed Vaali and Ravana, He ensured that their final rites were performed scrupulously by Angada and Vibhishana respectively. The reason was that it was the hearts in those bodies which misled the two to lead a sinful way of life. After the lives and thus the hearts left the bodies, the latter being the wonderful creation of the Almighty, had to be properly disposed of. So Lord Rama Himself took a personal care to see that the final rites were properly performed. Lord Krishna also ensured that the mortal remains of Kauravas were disposed of according to the prescribed rituals and he also took Dhrutharashtra and Pandavas to the banks of Ganges to do Tharpanam and other further rituals. But, the carelessness Hindu society displays towards the disposal of unclaimed bodies is unforgivable.
