வாயினால் உன்னைப் பரவிடும் அடியேன படுதுயர் களைவாய் பாசுபதா பரஞ்சுடரே!

“மனம் உருகும் உலகநாதன்”

சாட்சாத் ஈஸ்வரனின் திரு அவதாரமாக, சுக பிரம்மரிஷி அவர்களின் மேன்மையோடு ஸ்ரீ ஸ்ரீ ஸ்ரீ மஹாபெரியவா நம்மிடையே அருள்பாலித்திருப்பது நாம் செய்த பாக்யமே!!

தஞ்சாவூர் சுவாமிநாத ஆத்ரேயா அனுபவித்த ஒரு சம்பவம் ஸ்ரீ பெரியவாளெனும் ஈஸ்வரரின் மாமனது பிறர் துன்பம் கண்டு எப்படி துடிக்கிறதென்பதற்கு ஒரு எடுத்துக்காட்டாக அமைகிறது.

“சந்நியாசி சுகதுக்கங்களுக்கு மனசிலே இடம் கொடுக்கப்படாதுன்னு சாஸ்திரம் இருக்கு தெரியுமோ?” என தன் திருவாக்கினாலேயே இச்சம்பவத்தின்போது ஒரு சந்நியாசியின் தர்மமாக எடுத்துச் சொன்னாலும் ஸ்ரீ ஸ்ரீ ஸ்ரீ பெரியவா, தான் அந்த கருணா கிருபாகரரின் அவதாரம் என்பதனை வெளிப்படுத்தும் வகையில் பிறர் துன்பத்தில் உருகும் கருணையையும் காட்டுகின்றார்.

1964-65 இல் சென்னை கதீட்ரல் சாலை வழியே ஸ்ரீ பெரியவா விடியற்காலையில் ரிக்ஷாவை பிடித்தபடி நடந்து செல்ல கூடவே நீலகண்டய்யர், ஸ்ரீ மடம் சிவராமய்யர், பாணாம்பட்டு கண்ணன், ஸ்ரீகண்டன், ராயபுரம் பாலு இவர்களுடன் சுவாமிநாத ஆத்ரேயா அவர்களும் செல்கின்றனர். கூட நிறைய பக்தர்கள்.

கோபாலபுரம் திரும்புகிறபோது சுவாமிநாதனை பார்த்து “அதோ அந்த பெட்டிகடையிலே குடுமி வைச்சுண்டு வாயிலே புகை விட்டுண்டுருக்கான் பார்…அவனிடம் போய் பரவாக்கரை ச்ரௌதிகளை தெரியுமான்னு கேட்டுண்டு வா” என்றார்.

இவர் பெட்டிக்கடைக்கு ஓடியபோது அங்கே அந்த ஆள் கடைவாசலில் தொங்கும் கயிற்றில் பீடியை பற்ற வைத்துக்கொண்டிருந்தான். அவனைப் பார்க்கவே அருவருப்பாக இருந்தது. அவனை நெருங்கி இவர் “பரவாக்கரை ச்ரௌதிகளைத் தெரியுமா?” என்று கேட்க அவன் பீடியை உதறிவிட்டு பதறினான்.

“யார் நீங்க? எதுக்கு கேக்கறீங்க?” என்றான்.

“பெரியவா கேட்டுண்டு வரச்சொன்னா”

“பெரியவாளா? எங்கே?” என்று கேட்டவன் இவர் அதோ என்று காட்ட, பயந்தவனாக எதிர்திசையில் ஓடிவிட்டான். இவர் ஸ்ரீ பெரியவாளிடம் வந்து “கேட்டேன், பதில் சொல்லாமலே ஓடிட்டான்” என்றதும் ஸ்ரீ பெரியவா மௌனமாக நடக்கலானார்.

கோபாலபுரத்தில் ஒரு வீட்டில் பூர்ணகும்பம் காட்டி ஸ்ரீ பெரியவாளை அழைக்க, அங்கே பரமேஸ்வரர் பக்தர்களுக்கு அருளாசி வழங்கியபின் உள்ளே போக எழுந்தார்.

அப்போது அவன் ஓடிவந்தான். நெற்றியிலும் மார்பிலும் கைகளிலும் ஒழுங்கில்லாமல் பூசிக் கொண்டிருந்த விபூதி பட்டைகள், இடுப்பில் துண்டோடு அதே பெட்டிக்கடை ஆசாமி ஓடிவந்தவன் சாஷ்டாங்கமாக ஸ்ரீ பெரியவாளை விழுந்து வணங்கினான். ஸ்ரீ பெரியவா மறுபடியும் உடகார்ந்து விட்டார்.

“இவன் யார்?” என்று தெரியாதவர் போல சுவாமிநாதனிடம் ஸ்ரீ பெரியவா கேட்டார்.

“பெரியவா இவன் கிட்டேதான் போய் பரவாக்கரை ச்ரௌதிகள் தெரியுமான்னு சித்தமுன்னாடி கேட்டுண்டு வரச்சொன்னா” என்றார் இவர்.

உடனே அவன் “ஆமாம் நான் பரவாக்கரை ச்ரௌதிகள் பேரன் தான். பிரணதார்த்தின்னு பேரு” என்றான்.

ஸ்ரீ பெரியவா அவனை திருத்தினார் “பிரணதார்த்தின்னு சொல்லாதே! ப்ரணதார்த்தி ஹரன்னு சொல்லு. இல்லேன்னா ஹரன்னு மட்டும் சொல்லு. நமஸ்காரம் பண்றவாளோட பீடையெல்லாம் போக்கிடுவார் சுவாமி. அதுதான் அந்த பேரு”

“அப்படித்தான் எல்லோரும் கூப்பிடுவா! அதே பழக்கமாயிடுத்து” என்றார்.

“அதனாலேதான் இப்படி இருக்கே! நீ அத்யயனம் பண்ணினாயோ” என்று கேட்டுவிட்டு ஸ்ரீ பெரியவா ஒரு ஸாமம் சொல்லச் சொன்னார். இரண்டு மூன்று வாக்யங்கள் சொன்னான். மேலே மறந்து விட்டதாக கூறினான்.

“உனக்கு அண்ணா தம்பி யாராவது இருக்காளா?” என ஸ்ரீ பெரியவா வினவினார்.

“இரண்டு பேர் இருக்கா! அவா படிச்சுட்டு எங்கேயோ வேலை பண்றா. நான் நல்லா சொல்றேன்னு தாத்தா எனக்கு ஸாம வேதம் சொல்லிக் கொடுத்தா. எனக்கு அது பிடிக்கலே…வீட்டை விட்டு ஓடிவந்துட்டேன்” என்றான் அவன்.

“இப்போ என்ன செய்யறே!” ஸ்ரீ பெரியவா பரிவோடு கேட்டார்.

“போலீஸ்காரர்களுக்கு உதவி பண்றேன்”

“போலீஸ்காரர்களுக்கு நீ என்ன அப்படி உதவி பண்றே?”

“கோர்ட்டுக்கெல்லாம் அழைச்சுண்டு போவா! சாட்சி சொல்லச் சொல்லுவா! அதுக்கு படி கொடுப்பா”

“உனக்கு புகை பழக்கம் எப்படி வந்தது?”

“அவா கூட போகும் போது கட்டுகட்டா வாங்குவா. எனக்கும் ரெண்டு கொடுப்பா”

“கோர்ட்டிலே நீ பார்த்ததைத்தானே சொல்லுவே”

“நான் ஓன்னையும் பார்த்ததில்லை. அவா சொல்லி கொடுப்பா அப்படியே சொல்லணும்”

“வக்கீல் எல்லாம் குடைஞ்சி குடைஞ்சி கேள்வி கேட்பாளே?”

“ஆமாம் அதுக்காக போலீஸ்காரா என்னை சம்பவம் நடந்த இடத்துக்கு அழைச்சுண்டு போய் இங்க நடந்தது…நீ இங்கே நின்னுண்டுதான் பார்த்தே…கொலைகாரன் இந்த பக்கமாத்தான் ஓடினான்…இப்படியெல்லாம் சொல்லிக் கொடுப்பா..பல கேஸ்லே சாட்சி சொன்னதாலே நல்ல பழக்கமாயிடுத்து. வக்கீல் எப்படி கேட்டாலும் சாமர்த்தியமா பதில் சொல்லிடுவேன். ஆனா மூணு தடவை உளறிட்டேன். அதுக்காக போலீஸ்காராகிட்டே செமையா அடி வாங்கினேன்” அவன் விவரமாக சொல்லிக் கொண்டே போனான்.

“கோர்ட்டுக்கு போகும்போது சட்டையெல்லாம் போட்டுண்டு போவியா” ஸ்ரீ பெரியவா ஒரு பதிலை எதிர்பார்த்து இந்த கேள்வியை கேட்டது போலிருந்தது.

“இல்லே போலீஸ்கரா விடமாட்டா. பட்டை பட்டையா விபூதி பூசிக்கணும். பூணூலை நன்னா சோப்புபோட்டு வெளுத்துக்கணும்”

“இப்படி சாட்சி சொல்றது பாவமில்லையா?”

“பாவம்னு தெரியறது. எனக்கு வேற வழியில்லை”

“இரு நான் வழி சொல்றேன் கேளு. மைலாப்பூர் கபாலீஸ்வரர் கோயில் மேலக் கோபுர வாசலை தினம் சாயங்காலம் நன்னா பெருக்கி ஜலம் தெளிச்சுட்டு வா. தினமும் பத்து ரூபா தர ஏற்பாடு பன்றேன். மத்தியானம் சாப்பாடும் போடச் சொல்றேன்” அவன் திருந்த ஸ்ரீ பெரியவாளின் பெருங்கருணை விழைந்தது.

“கோயில் உண்டக்கட்டியெல்லாம் ஒத்துவராது” சாட்சாத் ஈஸ்வரனின் கட்டளையை ஏற்கவிடாமல் அவனை விதி தடுத்தது.

“சரி கோயில் பிரசாதம் வேண்டாம். வாரத்தில் ஒவ்வொரு நாளும் ஒத்தொருத்தர் ஆத்திலே சாப்பாடு போட சொல்றேன். ராத்திரி அந்த பத்து ரூபாயிலே சாப்பிடு” மீண்டும் ஸ்ரீ பெரியவாளின் காருண்யம் தடுத்தாட்கொள்ள நீண்டது.

“அதெல்லாம் சரி படாது”

“சரி இரண்டு நாளைக்கு மடத்திலேயே இரு. சந்திரமௌலீஸ்வரர் பூஜையைப் பாரு. பூஜை ஆனதும் உனக்கு சாப்பாடு போட சொல்றேன். யோசிச்சு பதில் சொல்லு”

“இன்னிக்கு அது முடியாது. எழும்பூர் கோர்ட்டிலே ஒரு பெரிய கேஸ். சாட்சி சொல்ல போகாட்டா முதுகெலும்பை முறிச்சுடுவா. நான் போறேன்” இப்படி சொல்லிட்டு அவன் போய் விட்டான்.

ஸ்ரீ பெரியவா அவன் காம்பவுண்டுக்கு வெளியே போகும் வரையில் அவனைப் பார்த்துக் கொண்டே இருந்து பிறகு எழுந்து உள்ளே சென்றார்.

நீலகண்டய்யரும் சுவாமிநாதனும் ஸ்ரீ பெரியவாளை தொடர்ந்து செல்ல, நீலகண்டய்யர் மெதுவாக ஆரம்பித்தார்.

“பெரியவா இத்தனை சொல்லியும் அவன் கேட்கலியே”

“அவன் இருக்கட்டும். போலீஸ்காரா பொய் சாட்சின்னு ஒரு தொழிலையே ஜனங்களுக்கு கத்துக் கொடுத்திருக்காளே” என்று பெரியவா சமுதாய கொடுமை ஓன்றுக்கு தன் வருத்தத்தை வெளிப்படுத்தினார்.

அதற்கு நீலகண்டய்யர் போலீஸ்காரர்களின் சூழ்நிலை அப்படி இருப்பதாகவும், சாட்சிகளை வேறு வழியில்லாமல் அவர்கள் ஜோடிக்க வேண்டியிருப்பதாகவும் சமாதானம் கூறினார். அதற்கு பெரியவா “கொலை ஒரு அநியாயம். கொலையை பார்த்தவா சாட்சி சொல்லாதது அடுத்த அநியாயம். பார்க்காதவர் பொய் சாட்சி சொல்றது மூணாவது அநியாயம். இதையெல்லாம் நியாயப்படுத்தி நீ பேசறே” என்றார்.

மேலும் “இதிலே இன்னொரு வேதனை. பிராமணன் பொய் சாட்சி சொன்னால் கூட கோர்ட் அதை சத்தியம்னு நம்பும்னு போலீஸ்காராளுக்கு நம்பிக்கை அதுக்காக பிராமணன் வேஷத்திலே போய் நிக்க சொல்றா. ஒரு ச்ரௌதிகள் பேரன் இப்படி இருக்கான். கோர்ட்டுக்கு போகாட்டா போலீஸ்காரா அடிப்பான்னு ஓடறான்” ஸ்ரீ பெரியவாளின் மனது பாதிக்கப்பட்டாற்போல திருவாக்கில் வருத்தம் தோய்ந்திருந்தது.

“பெரியவா ரொம்ப கிலேசப் பட்டாற்போல இருக்கு. நாங்க என்ன செய்யமுடியும்” நீலகண்டய்யர் ஆறுதல் தருவதுபோல பேசினார்.

“சந்நியாசி சுகதுக்கங்களுக்கு மனசிலே இடம் கொடுக்கக் கூடாதுன்னு சாஸ்திரம் சொல்லியிருக்கு தெரியுமோ” என்று சொல்லிக் கொண்டே கருணை வடிவான ஈஸ்வர அவதார மூர்த்தி ஸ்நானம் செய்ய கிளம்பினார்.

தன் சந்நியாச திரு அவதார தர்மத்தின்படி ஈஸ்வரர் சுக துக்கங்களுக்கு தன் மனதில் இடம் கொடுக்காதது போல காட்டிக் கொண்டாலும், தன் சுயமான லோக ரட்சக பரமேஸ்வர கிருபா சிந்தையால் இப்படி அந்த பொய் சாட்சி மானுடன் துயர் கொண்டிருந்த நிலைக்கு உருகவே வேண்டியதாகி விட்டதோ என்னவோ!

நடமாடும் தெய்வத்திற்கு அன்று என்ன நேர்ந்ததோ என்று மேலூர் மாமா எனும் பூஜை கட்டில் கைங்கர்யம் செய்யும் பக்தர் கவலை கொள்ளும் வகையில் அன்று ஸ்ரீ பெரியவா தன் ஸ்ரீமட தர்மமான பூஜையை கூட செய்யவில்லை என்பது தெரிந்தது. ப்ரணதார்த்தி ஹரன் என்ற ஜீவன் படும் துன்பத்தை தானே வலிய கேட்டு அதற்கு தக்க வழி சொல்லியதிலிருந்தே அவனுக்கு இந்த தெய்வத்தின் பூர்ண அனுகிரஹம் கிட்டிவிட்டதென்பது தெளிவாகிறதென்றாலும், ஸ்ரீ பெரியவாளேனும் மகாஞானி ஏதோ மாயம் செய்து அவனை சடாலென்று நல்வழி திருப்புவதாக காட்டிக் கொள்ளாமல் அன்று முழுவதும் அவன்படும் கஷ்டத்தையே எண்ணி உருகுகிறார்போல வழக்கமான பூஜையைகூட செய்யாமல் காத்துக் கொண்டுள்ளார்.

சுவாமிநாதன் ஸ்ரீசுவாமிகளை பகல் மூன்று மணிக்கு கொட்டகை பக்கம் பார்த்தபோது இப்படி ஒரு கிருபாநிதியா என்ற எண்ணம் எழ நின்றார்.

“மேலூர் மாமா என்ன சொன்னார்? அவர் இன்னிக்கு சாப்பிடலையாமே நீ விசாரிச்சியா?” ஸ்ரீ பெரியவாள் கேட்டார். ஸ்ரீ பெரியவா ஏதோ வருத்தத்தோடு பூஜைகூட செய்ய வராததால் மேலூர் பக்தர் சாப்பிடாமலிருந்ததை இப்படி பெரியவா விசாரிக்க இவருக்கு அந்த சூழ்நிலையில் கண்களில் நீர் சுரந்தது.

“நீ என்னமோ சொல்ல நினைக்கிறே. சொல்லிவிடேன்” என்று ஸ்ரீ பெரியவா சுவாமிநாதனை கேட்க, இவர் ஸ்ரீதர ஐயாவாள் சுலோகம் ஒன்று தனக்கு இந்த சூழ்நிலையில் தோன்றுவதாக கூறி அந்த சுலோகத்தை சொன்னார்.

“இளம்பிறை சந்திரனை தலையில் சூடிக்கொண்ட பெருமானே சிவசிவ என்ற மதுரமான நாமத்தை ரசித்துச் சொல்பவர்கள் துயரப்படமாட்டார்களென உலகில் எல்லோரும் சொல்வார்கள். அது வெறும் பேச்சு தான். ஆனால் புழு பூச்சியோ மனுஷனோ இல்லை எந்த ஜீவனோ கஷ்டப்படுவதை பார்த்துவிட்டால் அந்தக் கஷ்டம் தனக்கே வந்துவிட்டது போல் உருகிவிடுவார்கள்”

இப்படி அர்த்தத்தை சுவாமிநாதனிடமே கேட்டுவிட்டு ஸ்ரீ பெரியவா அந்த சுலோகம் சந்திரமௌளீஸ்வரரைப் பார்த்துதான் அய்யாவாள் பாடி இருக்காரென்று மட்டும் சொல்லிவிட்டு அங்கிருந்து நகர்ந்துவிட்டார்.

இப்படி லோகத்திலுள்ள அனைத்து ஜீவனின் கஷ்டங்களுக்கும் உருகிடும் மேன்மையோடு ஸ்ரீ பெரியவா திகழ, அவரிடம் நாம் கொள்ளும் பூர்ணபக்தி நம்மை என்றும் காத்து சகல நன்மைகளையும் அளித்தே தீரும் அல்லவா!

It is indeed our fortune that Sri Sri Sri Maha Periyava who is as superior as Sukha Brahma Rishi, an incarnation of sakshat Eshwara is blessing all of us!!

This experience by Thanjavur Swamintha Athreya stands out as an example for how Sri Periyava, who is none other than Eshwara, was worried when He saw others in distress.

Even though Sri Sri Sri Periyava Himself told during this incident that, “Do you know Shastra says that a Sanyasi should not give room to happiness or sorrow?”, Sri Sri Sri Periyava exhibits that He is the incarnation of that Karuna Krupakara, by feeling worried when He saw others suffering.

In 1964-65, Sri Periyava was walking in Cathedral Road, Chennai during one early morning, by holding the rickshaw. Along with Sri P            eriyava, Neelakantayyar, Sri Matam Sivaramaiyer, Paanaampattu Kannan, Srikantan, Royapuram Balu and Swaminatha Athreya were also walking. There were lot of other devotees too.

While they were turning towards Gopalapuram, Sri Periyava told Swaminatha, “Do you see a guy with a tuft in his head, smoking in that petty shop? Go to him and ask if he knows Paravaakkarai Srowthigal”

When Swaminatha went near that petty shop, that guy was about to start smoking. He looked filthy. Swaminatha approached him and when he started asking, “Do you know Paravaakkarai Srowthigal?” he immediately threw away his cigarette and with a puzzled look asked “Who are you? Why are you asking?”

“Periyava asked me to enquire”

“Periyava? Where?” he asked. When Swaminatha showed the direction where Sri Periyava was, he immediately ran in the opposite direction. Swaminatha came back to Periyava and told, “I asked. He ran without responding”. When Sri Periyava heard this, He started walking silently.

Sri Periyava was invited into a house in Gopalapuram by giving poornakumbham. Sri Periyava, pratyaksha Parameshwara, was about to leave inside after blessing His devotees.

There, he came running. He had vibhuti marks all over his body. The same guy who was in the petty shop came there with a towel in his waist. He prostrated before Sri Periyava. Immediately, Sri Periyava came back and sat down.

“Who is he?” asked Sri Periyava to Swaminatha, as if He did not know him.

“Sri Periyava asked me to enquire about Paravaakkarai Srowthigal to this guy only few moments back”, told Swaminatha.

Immediately, this guy told, “Yes, I am Paravaakkarai Srowthigal’s grandson. My name is Pranathaarthi”.

Sri Periyava corrected him. “Do not tell Pranathaarthi! You should say Pranathaarthi Haran. Else, just say Haran. It means that Swami would get rid of sins whoever does prostrations to Him”.

“Everyone calls me Pranathaarthi. So, I got used to it” he told.

“That is why you are like this! Did you learn Veda?” asked Sri Periyava and also ordered him to recite a Sama. He told two three words and after that he could not continue. He told that he forgot.

“Do you have any brothers?” asked Sri Periyava.

“I have two of them! They are educated and are working somewhere. My grandfather felt that I recite Veda well and he taught me Sama Vedam. I did not like it. So, I ran out of the house” he told.

“What are you doing now?” asked Periyava with affection.

“Helping policemen”

“How are you helping policemen?”

“They would take me to court and ask me to be a witness. They would also pay me for that”

“How did you get smoking habit?”

“Policemen would buy cigarettes in bulk and also give me couple of them when I go with them”

“You would tell whatever you have seen, isn’t it?”

“I would not have seen anything. They would teach me. I need to repeat it”

“Wouldn’t the lawyers interrogate you by asking questions?”

“Yes. For that, policemen would take me to the spot. They would say you watched it from here and the killer ran this way. As I have been a witness in many cases, I got used to it now. I can answer the lawyers smartly. But, I have stumbled three times and have got beatings from policemen for that” he explained in detail.

“Would you wear shirt while going to court?” Sri Periyava asked him expecting a specific response.

“No, Policemen would not allow. I have to apply Vibhuti marks all over my body and I need to clean my poonal properly”

“Is it not a sin to lie like this?”

“I know it is a sin. I do not know anything else”

“I shall tell you a way. Every evening, clean the entrance of Sri Kabaleeswarar temple in Mylapore. I will ask them to give you 10 rupees a day and also ask them to give you food every afternoon” Sri Periyava told this to correct him.

“I cannot eat temple prasadam” his fate made him say so by not accepting sakshat Eshwara’s orders.

“OK, you do not have to eat temple prasadam. I shall ask people to offer you food in different houses every day. You can eat dinner with that 10 rupees” Sri Periyava told with lot of affection and kindness.

“No, I do not think this would work”

“OK, stay in Sri Matam for two days. Have darshan of Sri Chandramouleeswara Pooja. As soon as the pooja gets over, I shall ask them to feed you. You can think and respond”.

“It is not possible today. There is an important case in Egmore court. Policemen would break my backbone if I do not go as witness. I am going now” saying so, he went away.

Sri Periyava kept looking at him till he crossed the compound wall and then He went inside.

Neelakantayyar and Swaminatha followed Sri Periyava and slowly Neelakantayyar started talking.

“Even after Sri Periyava told this much, he did not listen”

“Let him be. Policemen have taught a new job to common men by asking them to be a false witness” Sri Periyava conveyed His concern about a social issue.

For that, Neelakantayyar told Sri Periyava that the situation of policemen is like that and they had to create false witnesses. Sri Periyava then told, “Killing is a crime. People who witnessed the killing not telling it is second crime. People who did not witness the killing and appearing as false witness is third crime. And you are trying to support it”

Also, “There is another pain. Policemen know that court will accept Brahmins as witness, even if they lie. A srowthigal’s grandson is like that. He is running fearing policemen”, told Sri Periyava.

Meloor Mama did not eat that day because Sri Periyava did not even come for poojai. When Sri Periyava enquired about that, Swaminathan started weeping.

When Sri Periyava told “You want to say something. Go ahead and tell”, Swaminathan responded that he remembers a slokam of Sri Sridhara Ayyaval and started reciting it.

“Everyone says that if one recites Siva Siva nama of Lord, who has a crescent moon in His head, they will not have any worries of their own. But it is not true. If they happen to see even an insect or a person suffering, they will start worrying as if the pain is theirs”. When Swaminatha completed reciting the sloka that had a meaning like this, Sri Periyava immediately told that Sri Ayyaval praised Lord Chandramouleeswara in that sloka and moved away from that place.

When we have Sri Periyava, whose heart melts by seeing difficulties faced by everyone in this world, is it not true that our complete surrender and bhakthi to Him would grant us all prosperity and happiness?
