இந்நாளில் தான,தர்மங்களை அளவின்றி குறையில்லாமல் செய்ய வேண்டும். தங்கமோ,நகையோ வாங்க சொல்லி இந்து தர்மம் கூறவில்லை.இதை கவனத்தில் கொள்ள வேண்டும்.

One should do lot of dhanams on this day. There is no mention of buying gold on this day in any sastra. These sastras are written by all commercial enterprises like GRT, Lalitha Jewelers etc….We foolishly fall for all these misinterpretations.

Let us pray Iswara / Lalitha to bless us with all the wealth to give dhanams to others.

    please, make every effort to post the pictures of Srldevi & Moodevi.
    If you are stuck with problem, i wonder who else can do it.

  2. Also, it is worth mentioning that Kali purushan is entitled to flourish in places where there is abundant gold. Let us not buy gold than what is just required. It will help the country to use the foreign exchange for other better purposes if it is being imported.

  3. Very nice and informative. Let us do a lot of Annadhanam and distribute Neermor(Buttermilk) and Paanakam to the thirsty. Let us give for education, religious festivals and temple renovations. These will bring innumerable benefits and prosperity.(Akshayam). Buying jewellery on that day is only due to the gimmickery of the Jewel shop owners. Hara Hara Shankara, Jaya Jaya Shankara!

It also explains the story of the inauspiciousness of possessing too much gold from the Srimad Bhagavatham There are two very beautiul images of vigrahas of Sridevi and Moodevi, which I do not know how to transfer.

    “It will soon be Akshaya Thrithiya – one of the most auspicious times in the year. But it has been hijacked by the business world and is fast becoming another commercial construct, ‘Hinduism’s’ own answer to the silly season of Valentine’s Day. In the crazed exodus towards jewellery shops, the real significance behind Akshaya Thrithiya is fast fading. Perhaps it is time to re-visit [recover] it.

    Gold – The Fifth Abode of Kali Purusha

    The time is 5117 BP (before present.) The place is Hasthinapura in Bharatha Varsha

    The Pandavas have crowned Parikshith, Arjuna’s grandson as Emperor of the Kuru Empire and departed for the Himalayas. Krishna has given up his mortal body and ascended to Vaikuntam. It is the turnover period of Dwapara Yuga into KalivYuga.

    One day Parikshith is out hunting in the jungle. He is alone. Suddenly, a tall, imposing, richly attired man steps out from behind a tree to confront him. Parikshith demands to know who he is that dares waylay the King. The man replies that he is Kali Purusha – the harbinger and Lord of Kali Yuga, the Black Age of adharma or unrighteousness. Parikshit is enraged and commands that while he Parikshit, the grandson of the great Arjuna, and scion of the Kuru dynasty is the King, he will not allow Kali to enter his world. Kali Purusha replies quite respectfully that even Parikshit cannot stop relentless Kaala (Time). Kaala is supreme and Kaala has ordained that the Dvaapara Yuga has ended and it is time for Kali now. But Parikshit is adamant. He takes up his bow and arrow, and replies that as long as he is alive and is guardian of Dharma, no force of adharma shall dare cross into his kingdom. Kali hesitates and thinks. He knows that the strength of Dharma can and will prevent his entry. But on the other hand he has to obey KaalaDharma or the order of immutable Time. So he surrenders to Parikshit and humbly states that under the rules of Raja Dharma, [a king’s code], Parikshith will have to provide him with protection and shelter. Parikshith now is bound by his own Raja Dharma. He gives Kali Purusha four places to live in – 1. Gambling (Greed) 2. Liquor (Intoxication) 3. Adultery (Lust) 4. Tyranny (Cruelty)  Kali is not satisfied. He appeals to Parikshit that all these are marginal and limited and therefore not large enough to contain him. He needs just one more strong and established place in which he can live. Parikshit thinks, and then he tells Kali that he can take his habitation in the metal, Gold.

    Kali smiles. He has had his way! The next moment he disappears and has taken his abode in Parikshith’s golden crown!

    The events immediately following demonstrates the power of Kali. Parikshit walks on in the jungle, now tired and thirsty. He comes to a clearing where he sees a Sage sitting in deep meditation. Blind with thirst Parikshit looks around, sees no one and approaches the Sage. He asks him for water. The Sage does not reply for he is too deep in samadhi to even hear Parikshit’s repeated requests for water. Here is when the insidious power of Kali in the king’s gold crown exhibits its mischievous nature. Parikshit gets offended and angry and wants to kill the sage. But the deeper and natural Dharma in him stays his handwith the arrow. He looks around and sees a dead snake. Again Kali plays with Parikshit’s mind. The king picks up the dead snake and throws it around the Sage’s neck in a fot of frustration. This is witnessed by the Sage’s son who happens to come there then.  He gets furious and curses Parikshith that he shall die of the bite of a snake within 10 days.

    What follows later –  Parikshit’s remorse and fear, the recital of the Bhagavatha Purana to him by the great Sage Suka Brahma Rishi, and finally his death from the bite of Thakshaka, the king of serpents, is another story. With Parikshith’s death, the turnover period of Dwapara Yuga into Kali Yuga is complete.

    Sri or Laksmi is NOT gold.

    Lakshmi is the Goddess of Wealth. Wealth is what a human being considers as wealth. The concept of ‘Wealth’ changes as the nature of human beings change; and the nature of human beings change with the change in the Yugas. In the other 3 Yugas,  more natural and wholesome things were considered as wealth.  Its only in Kali that wealth is associated with just material wealth and money. That is why we [mis]represent Lakshmi as the goddess of Gold. And as already demonstrated by Parikshith’s story, gold can and will derail one’s mind.  Even today the traditional blessing of an elder to a genuflecting youngster is for good health, sane mind and  a long and full life.  (Aayushman Bhava)! Not to attain gold and riches.

                         SRIDEVI

    Sanmathi! A sane and balanced mind is the operative word! Of all forms of wealth, the most tricky is money (or in this case – Gold) While it can help you spread goodness and prosperity, it can also play games with one’s mind and derail it. It can make one blind and acquisitive. An allegorical description of this is the story that Sridevi is the approaching form of Lakshmi, who is the embodiment in her eight forms (AshtaLakshmi) of prosperity and auspiciousness, while the departing form of Lakshmi is Moodevi. It is said that the approaching frontal form of Lakshmi is beautiful andnthe human is attracted by it. But the departing or posterior form of Lakshmi as Moodevi is so entrancing that it entices men who follow it to self-destruction!

                                   MOODEVI

    The signs of this derailment of people’s mind, and the craze for gold is the tragic lore of human history all over the world. One can witness it for oneself with just a brief visit to jewellery shops on Akshaya Thrithiya week. Just stand aside quietly and watch awhile. You will see all the exhibition in full form the uglinesses of human nature. 

     Now – What is Akshaya Thrithiya?   

    There are three and one half wholly auspicious days in a year. Akshaya Thrithiya is one of them. This is the time to propagate and distribute wealth – real wealth; not to acquire and hoard it. 

    It is the time  to:

    – Plant trees and food crops; green the planet; dig wells and deepen lakes (create wealth)

    – to donate alms; to do charity of all kinds in all places that need help (to distribute wealth).

    – to cleanse oneself, internally and out. To fast, meditate, stay still with good thoughts.
