“எல்லார்க்கும் நீர் மோர் கெடைச்சுதா?….’

(கருணை பொங்கும் உள்ளம் அது கடவுள் வாழும் இல்லம்)

தாயைத் தவிர வேறு யாரால் இப்படிக் கருணை பொங்க அருள்புரிய முடியும்?

அன்று சித்திரை 18ம் தேதி! அக்னி நட்சத்திரம் ஆரம்ப காலம்! காஞ்சி மடத்தின் வாசலில் நீர் மோர் விநியோகம் பண்ணிக் கொண்டிருந்த பாட்டியை பெரியவர் அவசரமாக அழைத்தார்.

“இன்னிக்கி நெறைய்…ய்ய தயிர் வாங்கி, ரெண்டு மூணு அண்டால நெறைய்ய நீர் மோர் தயார் பண்ணி வை!…..’

“ஆகட்டும்…… பெரியவா!…’

“வெறும் மோரா இல்லாம, அதுல பெருங்காயம், கடுகு தாளிச்சுக் கொட்டு! கொஞ்சம் கறிவேப்பிலை நன்னா.. கசக்கிப் போடு! வேணுன்னா ரெண்டு பச்சமொளகா கூட நறுக்கிப் போடலாம்! இஞ்சித்துண்டு போடற வழக்கம் உண்டோ?…..’

“போட்டுடறேன்…. பெரியவா…’

பாட்டி தலையை ஆட்டிவிட்டு, உக்ராணம் பக்கம் போய் விட்டாள்…. பெரியவர் சொன்னபடி செய்ய. எதற்காக பெரியவர் இதைச் சொல்கிறார் என்று யாருக்கும் தெரியவில்லை. ஏனென்றால் அன்று அவ்வளவு கூட்டமும் இல்லை. மடத்தில் இருந்தவர்களுக்கு குழப்பம்.

அன்று கச்சபேஸ்வரர் கோவில் எதிரில் கடவுள் எதிர்ப்பு கட்சி ஒன்றின் பொதுக்கூட்டம் பகல் ஒரு மணிக்கு நடந்து முடிந்தது. தொண்டர்கள் மடத்துக்கு பக்கத்திலிருந்த பஸ் ஸ்டாண்டுக்கு நடந்து சென்று கொண்டிருந்தனர்! நடந்து வந்ததில் எல்லாருக்கும் நா வறட்டும் தாகம்! அவர்கள் மடத்துவாசலில் மோர் கொடுத்துக் கொண்டிருந்ததைப் பார்த்தார்கள்.

“யோவ்!…அங்க பாருய்யா! நீர் மோர் குடுக்கறாங்க…வாங்க போலாம்!’

பாட்டி அத்தனை பேருக்கும் மோர் கொடுத்தார்.

அத்தனை அண்டாவும் காலி!!! ஒரு சொட்டு கூட மிஞ்சவில்லை!! தாகம் தீர்ந்ததும், அண்டாவை விட்டுவிட்டு மடத்தை பார்த்தார்கள்.

“கன்னையா….. வர்றியா?… உள்ளாற சாமிய பாத்துட்டு போலாம்?’ முணுமுணுத்தார் ஒருவர்.

“ஆமாண்ணே! எனக்கும் ஆசையாத்தான் இருக்கு…. சாமீ ரொம்ப பெரிய கடவுள்தான்! ஆனா கூட வந்தவங்க திட்டுவாங்களே….’

இதில் வேடிக்கை என்னவென்றால்….. நூறு பேருக்குமே இதே கவலை… பயம்! கடவுள் இல்லை என்று அவரைத் திட்டித் தீர்த்த கூட்டத்தில் கலந்து கொண்ட பின், எந்த மூஞ்சியை வைத்துக் கொண்டு மடத்துக்குள் நுழைவது?

அவர்கள் அவ்வாறு யோசித்துக் கொண்டிருந்த வேளையில், மடத்தில் இருந்து சீடர்கள் வேகமாக வெளியே வந்தார்கள். பின்னாலேயே பெரியவரும் வந்து விட்டார்.

“நீங்கள்ளாம் உள்ள வந்து என்னைப் பாக்காட்டா என்ன? இதோ… நானே… ஒங்களை எல்லாம் பாக்க வரேனே!..’ என்பது போல், நாலைந்து பண்டிதர்களுடன் வேதாந்தம் பற்றி பேசிக்கொண்டே பெரியவர் வெளியே வந்தார்.

எதிரே உள்ள கங்கைகொண்டான் மண்டபத்து ஆஞ்சநேயரை தரிசிக்க அவர் சென்று கொண்டிருந்தார்.

ஆக, பெரியவரை தரிசிக்க வேண்டும் என விரும்பிய அந்தத் தொண்டர்களின் விருப்பம் நிறைவேறி விட்டது.

வறுத்தெடுக்கும் சூடான தெருப் புழுதியில் அத்தனை பேரும் தடாலென்று விழுந்து பெரியவரை வணங்கினார்கள்.

பெரியவரும் அவர்களுக்காக அந்த சுடு மண்ணில் நின்றார்.

“எல்லார்க்கும் நீர் மோர் கெடைச்சுதா?….’

“கெடச்சுது…..சாமீ!……’

“ஸாமீ….. துண்ணூறு!…..’ என்று எல்லாரும் திருநீறும் கேட்டு வாங்கினார்கள்.

தாயைத் தவிர வேறு யாரால் இப்படிக் கருணை பொங்க அருள்புரிய முடியும்? அந்த தொண்டர்களில் பலருடைய கண்களில், பெரியவர் காட்டிய அன்பு கண்ணீரையே வரவழைத்துவிட்டது!

அகழ்வாரைத் தாங்கும் நிலம்! வைதாரையும் வாழ வைக்கும் ரூபம்! புதிய, பழைய பக்தர்கள் புடைசூழ ஆஞ்சநேயர் கோவிலுக்கு பெரியவர் கிளம்பினார்.

“Did everyone get buttermilk?…..”

Other than the Mother, who else can grant blessings with abundant compassion?

It was the 18^th day of the Chithirai month (around May 3 ). The beginning of the Agni Nakshatram ( the hottest period in summer).

Periyava urgently called for the Paatti (elderly woman) who was distributing buttermilk at the entrance of the Kanchi Sri Madam.

“ Buy lot…s of curd today and prepare buttermilk in two or three huge containers”.

“ Will do…. Periyava”.

“ Without keeping it as plain buttermilk, garnish it with asafetida and mustard seeds. Add some crushed curry leaves too! A few green chillies can be added as well! Is there a practice of adding ginger also?……”

“ Will add…… Periyava”.

Paatti nodded her head and went towards the store room to carry out Periyava’s instructions. Nobody understood why Periyava said this. People in the Sri Madam were confused since the crowd in the Sri Madam was not much that day.

A public meeting of an atheist party was held on that day, in the area opposite the Kachapeshwarar temple and got over at 1 o’clock in the afternoon. The party workers started walking towards the bus stand located near the Sri Madam. Their walk (in the hot sun) made them feel very thirsty. They noticed that buttermilk was being served at the entrance to the Sri Madam.

“Hey… look there! They are serving buttermilk! Come on…. let us go there!”

Paatti served buttermilk to all of them.

All the huge containers got empty!!! Not a drop was left!! Their thirst having got quenched, their gaze left the containers and went towards the Sri Madam..

“Kannaiyya… Will you come?….. We will see the Sami inside and then go” muttered one.

“Yes brother! This is my wish too! Sami is a great God! But those who have come with us will reprimand us……”

The funny thing was that all the hundred people had the same worry and fear. After having participated in the meeting that highly condemned Him, does one have a face to enter the Sri Madam?

Even as they were thinking on these lines, the devotees from the Sri Madam were seen walking out quickly. Following them, Periyava also walked out as if to say “ How does it matter if you all do not come inside to see me? Here I am, to see you” , Periyava came out talking about Vedantam with four or five scholars.

He was going to have the darshan of Lord Anjaneya at the Gangaikondan Mantapam located opposite the Sri Madam.

The wish of the party workers to have a darshan of Periyava was thus fulfilled! All of them prostrated to Periyava, on the dust filled hot road.

Periyava also stood on the hot road for their sake.

“Did all of you get buttermilk?……”

“ We did….Sami!”

“ Sami…. Sacred ash please” they requested and took the vibhuti.

Other than the Mother, who else can grant blessings with abundant compassion?

Periyava’s kindness brought tears to the eyes of many of the party workers!

Like the earth which bears even those who dig it, Periyava blesses even those who condemn Him.

With the new and the old devotees in tow, Periyava left for the Anjaneya temple.
