நான் அவருடைய தினசரி அலுவல்களைக் கவனித்திருக்கிறேன். அதைப்பற்றிக் கூற விரும்புகிறேன்.
தியானம்
தினமும் காலையில், அவருடைய காலைக்கடன்களை முடித்தவுடன், பெரியவா “ஒரு மணி ஜப”த்துக்கு உட்காருவார்—-ஒரு மணி நேரத்துக்குத் தியானம். அறுபது நிமிடங்களுக்கு ‘பிரணவ’ ஜபம் செய்வார்; அந்த சமயத்தில், ‘பிரஹ்மத்தோடு’ தானும் ஒன்றியிருப்பார்; வெளி உலகமே தெரியாது.
அவருடைய அணுக்கத் தொண்டர் ஸ்ரீ கண்ணன் ஒரு நிகழ்ச்சியைப்பற்றி என்னிடம் கூறினார். பெரியவா ஸ்ரீசைலத்தில் முகாம்; அவர் ஒரு சிறிய அறையில் அமர்ந்து தன் ஜபத்தைத் தொடங்கினார். கண்ணன் உட்பட எல்லா அணுக்கத் தொண்டர்களூம் அறையை விட்டு வெளியே வந்தனர். முப்பது நிமிஷங்கள் கழித்து, கண்ணன் அறையின் ஜன்னலைத் திறந்து பார்த்தபொழுது, பெரியவாளுக்கு முன்னால் ஒரு பெரிய நாகப் பாம்பு படமெடுத்து அமர்ந்திருப்பதைக் கண்டு அதிர்ச்சி அடைந்தார். பெரியவா ஜபத்தை முடித்து கண்களைத் திறக்கும்பொழுது, அந்த நாகஸர்ப்பம் பெரியவாளைத் தீண்டிவிடுமோவென்று அனைத்து தொண்டர்களும் பயந்தனர். பெரியவா ஜபத்தை முடித்தார்.; பாம்பு அங்கேயே இருந்தது. பெரியவா துளிக்கூட சலனமின்றி, அமைதியாக, கண்ணனைக் கூப்பிட்டு, அந்த நாகம் தரிசனத்துக்கு வந்திருப்பதாகவும், யாருக்கும் தீங்கிழைக்காது என்றும் கூறினார். நாகத்திற்கு அருகாமையில் ஒரு பாத்திரம் கொண்டுவரும்படி சொன்னார். கண்ணன் அப்படியே செய்தவுடன், பாத்திரத்தை ஒரு துணியால் மூடி, அந்த நாகத்தை அருகில் உள்ள புதர்களுக்கிடையே கொண்டு விடும்படி கூறினார்.
அந்த நாகம் பெரியவாளுக்கு முன்னே பிரமித்து நின்றது என்பது நிச்சயம்.
பிக்ஷை (உணவு):
பெரியவா தினம் பகலில் சாப்பிடுவது மூன்று கவளம் அவலும் பழங்களுமே. இரவு, பழ ஜாம் எடுத்துக் கொள்வார்.
பதின்மூன்று வயதிலிருந்தே, சன்யாசம் எடுத்துக் கொண்ட பிறகு, பெரியவா காரோ, ரயிலோ ஏரோப்ளேனோ எந்த ஒரு வாகனத்திலும் ஏறியதில்லை. எப்பொழுதும் நடைதான். 1930—களில் அவர் காசிக்கும் வங்காளத்திற்கும் ஒரு நீண்ட பாதயாத்திரை மேற்கொண்டார். 1978 முதல் 1984 வரை கர்னாடகா, ஆந்திர மஹாராஷ்டிரா மாநிலங்களில் பாதயாத்திரை மேற்கொண்டு, ஆறு வருஷங்களில் 3000 கிலோமீட்டர் நடந்தே பயணம் செய்தார்.
பல நாட்கள், அவர் மௌனவிரதம் மேற்கொள்வார். சரஸ்வதியின் நக்ஷத்திரமான மூலம் அன்று அவர் காஷ்ட மௌனம் அநுசரிப்பார்.
இத்தகைய வழக்கங்களால் கடைசி நாள் வரை நல்ல தேக ஆரோக்கியத்தைக் கொண்டிருந்தார்.
எப்பொழுதும் நம்முடனே !
1984 முதல் 1994 வரை அவர் காஞ்சியிலேயே தங்கியிருந்தார். இந்த காலகட்டத்தில், தலை லாமா, பிரதம மந்திரி சந்திரசேகர் போன்ற பல பிரபல மனிதர்கள், பெரியவாளை தரிசனம் செய்தனர். கடைசி மூன்று வருஷங்கள் பக்தர்களுடனான தொடர்பை நிறுத்தி விட்டார். அணுக்கத் தொண்டர்கள் மூலமே பேசினார்.
அவருடைய 100 வது ஜன்ம தினம் 1993 மே மாதம் மடத்தில் கொண்டாடப்பட்டது. நானும் என் நண்பன் கணேசனும் தரிசனத்திற்காக காஞ்சி சென்றிருந்தோம். கூடத்தில் பக்தர்கள் நிரம்பி வழிந்தனர். பத்து மணிக்கு பெரியவாளை ஒரு ஈஸிசேரில் வைத்து, கூடத்திற்கு கொண்டுவந்தார்கள். சில நிமிஷங்கள் கழிந்து, பெரியவா பக்தர்களை நோக்கிக் கைகளைக் கூப்பினார் (அவர்களுக்கு நன்றி சொல்லும் பாவனையிலோ?). இதைக் கண்டவுடன் பல பக்தர்கள் உணர்ச்சிவசப்பட்டனர்.
1994 ஜனவரி 6—ஆம் தேதி தரிசனத்திற்காக நான் காஞ்சிக்கு சென்றிருந்தேன். (என் தகப்பனார் ஸ்ரீ சங்கரன் 1993 நவம்பர் மாதம் 18—ஆம் தேதி இயற்கை எய்தியிருந்தார். காரியங்கள் எல்லாம் முடித்த பிறகு நான் அங்கு சென்றிருந்தேன்). நான் பெரியவா தங்கியிருந்த அறைக்குச் சென்றபொழுது, ஸ்ரீ வைத்யநாதன், சில தினங்கள் கழித்து வரும்படியும் கூறினார். நான் புறப்பட இருக்கையில், பெரியவா அருகில் இருந்த ஸ்ரீகண்டன் வெளியில் வந்து, “நீங்கள் உங்கள் தந்தையாரின் காரியங்களை நன்றாகச் செய்தீர்களா?” என்று கேட்டார். நான் “ஆமாம்” என்று கூறினேன். பிறகு, ஸ்ரீகன்டன் திரும்ப பெரியவாளிடத்திற்கு சென்றார். அந்த ஒரு மோசமான தேகநிலையிலும், என்னைப்பற்றி விசாரிக்கும் அளவு அவருக்கு என்மேல் பரிவு இருந்தது. அதுதான் பெரியவாளின் உயர்ந்த நிலை.
ஜனவரி 8—ஆம் தேதி பெரியவா மஹாஸமாதி அடைந்தார்.
அவருக்கு அருகில் இருந்த ஸ்ரீ வைத்யநாதன், பெரியவாளின் கடைசி நிமிஷங்களை இப்படி விவரித்தார்:
பெரியவா கட்டிலில் படுத்துக் கொண்டிருந்தார். நான்கு பேர்கள் மட்டுமே அவர் அருகில் இருந்தனர். சுமார் 2.50க்கு அவர் எழுந்து உட்கார்ந்து தன் கடைசி மூச்சை விட்டார். சாஸ்த்ரங்களின்படி, ஒரு சன்யாசி உட்கார்ந்த நிலையில்தான் தன் பூத உடலை விடவேண்டும் என்றிருக்கிறது. பெரியவா தன் வாழ்நாள் முழுவதும் ஒரு உண்மையான சன்யாசியாக வாழ்ந்து, அவருடைய கடைசி மூச்சு வரை சன்யாச தர்மத்தைக் கடைப்பிடித்தார். பீஷ்மரைப்போல், தன் பூதவுடலை விட்டு செல்லும் சமயத்தை அவரே தேர்ந்தெடுத்தார்.
ஆல்பர்ட் ஐன்ஸ்டீன் மஹாத்மா காந்தியைப் பற்றிக் கூறிய சில வார்த்தைகளுடன் இதை முடிக்க விரும்புகிறேன்.
“இவரைப்போல சதையும் ரத்தமுமாலான ஒரு மனிதர் இந்த உலகத்தில் இருந்தார் என்று வருங்கால சந்ததியினர் நம்புவது சந்தேகமே.”
இந்த வார்த்தைகள், இந்த பூவுலகில் நூறாண்டுகள் வாழ்ந்த ஸ்ரீ சந்திரசேகரேந்த்ர சரஸ்வதி ஸ்வாமிகள் என்ற காஞ்சி முனிவருக்கு முழுமையாகப் பொருந்தும்.

The comments only confirm my conviction that the “personality” (externals)_immediately attracts our attention than the “person” moreAs is pointed pit, the spirit of the quote perhaps wou;ld have been accepted and ;lauded if the author had om9tted the author of the quote and the persons compared.

will any one think of ஸ்ரீ பெரியவா Sri Periyava as “a Man”?. ஸ்ரீ பெரியவா Sri Periyava is felt at any moment and appear.
So ignore the quote.

Although I admire author’s comment on compering HH Maha Periva with MK Gandhi, it is really unjustlfying comparison to do that since Maha Periva was ever been beyond any such comparison. HE was leaving God and HE is still in lakhs of devotees’ mind. Pl and pl never compare HIM with any humans. I’m sorry if I hurt you or anybody.

Nobody including the author has compared Periava with Gandhi. For that matter HE cannot be compared with any human. The author’s intention is merely to take the quote and nothing more. As Sri Ramesh Raju has said, the meaning of the quote is more important than who said it about whom. Let us stop this unnecessary debate with this.
Sri Narayanan Garu, at the outset let me say this that I’m not debating nor I have interest in it. It was just an opinion from me. The author can accept or reject it, it is up to him. If it is still look like debate, my apology for this.
The entire series has been very good and not-read-about so far. Very informative about the last moments. Like the swan, take only what is appealing to us. While writing, the lines just flow and the author felt that way. (in fact he has been honest. If he had stated that it is hard to believe that God lived in a body ,flesh and blood, someone would say copied Einstein’s words!). There are a lot many minute things to be learnt and applied in real life to evolve. In Deivathin Kural (3rd Part), while discussing about economy, (thriftiness one shoud adopt), He says it is not only towards money, but being thrifty in all our deeds, thoughts etc. and be careful not to waste in these aspects also!. Just felt like writing this.

This wonderful write-up giving us the last moments of our beloved Sri Periyavaa, unfortunately need not have ended up with quotation of Sri Albert Einstein on Mohandas K Gandhi [MKG]. MKG is a very ordinary soul who cannot be compared with a exalted avataram such as Sri Periyavaa. [Those interested can enter into a debate with me separately on this score].
Can’t agree with you anymore. Unfortunately, I couldn’t edit that line as the article was authored by someone.

As a person who has translated the original version in English, I would only say that each individual has his own perception of another, be it an ordinary or an exalted one ! A debate on this is unwarranted and most unnecessary, in my opinion. I do not think the author has compared Gandhi and Periava. He has only taken the quote by some one on some one else. We should leave it at that.. Every one will agree that future generations will scarcely believe that such a ‘Brahmatman’ like Periava walked this ‘Punya Bhoomi’ for 100 years. That is why blogs such as this have been created to Spread HIS teachings and life history so that younger generations will know HIM and will pass on this to the next generations to come.
Let us not tarnish this blog by entering into debates which will take us nowhere.

Fully agree! comparing MK Gandhi with MahaPeriyava? it is a sacrilege , MahaPeriyava is an Avatar, however we have to paraphrase to illustrate, like comparing Sun to a flame
