இனிமே இந்த கொழந்தைய நா, பாத்துக்கறேன்!
எசையனூரை சேர்ந்த, ப்ரஹ்மஸ்ரீ வேதபுரி மாமா பெரியவாளுக்கு மிகவும் செல்லமான குழந்தை!
ஒருமுறை சாதுர்மாஸ்யத்துக்கு எசையனூரில் பெரியவா முகாமிட்டிருந்தார். அப்போது 8 வயஸு சிறுவன் வேதபுரிக்கு, பெரியவாளின் பரம பக்தையான கோகிலாப்பாட்டி என்ற எசையனூர் பாட்டி சொல்வதே வேதவாக்கு!
“வேதபுரி….. தெனோமும் வயல்லேர்ந்து பூ எல்லாத்தையும் பறிச்சிண்டு வந்து, பெரியவாளுக்கு முன்னால வெச்சுட்டு நமஸ்காரம் பண்ணு! பல்லு தேச்சுட்டு, விபூதி இட்டுண்டு பூவை பறிக்கணும்…என்ன?”
கர்ம ஶ்ரத்தையோடு பாட்டி சொன்னதை சிறுவன் வேதபுரி கடைப்பிடித்தான். ஒருநாள், ஸ்ரீ த்ருபுரஸுந்தரி ஸமேத சந்த்ரமௌலீஶ்வர பூஜை முடிந்ததும், பெரியவா எல்லாருக்கும் தீர்த்தம் குடுத்தார். வேதபுரி தீர்த்தம் வாங்க கையை நீட்டியதும், பெரியவாளின் திருக்கரத்திலிருந்து தீர்த்தம் வேதபுரியின் குட்டிக் கைகளில் விழுந்தது; கூடவே, திருவாயிலிருந்து ஒரு கட்டளையும் விழுந்தது!
“இங்கியே ஓரமா நில்லு….”
என்னமோ, ஏதோ, என்று பயந்து கொண்டு திரு திருவென்று முழித்துக் கொண்டு ஓரமாக நிற்கும் வேதபுரியைப் பார்த்ததும், பெரியவா சிரித்துக் கொண்டே, அதிக வாஞ்சையுடன்,
“பயப்படாதேடா! ஒங்கிட்ட பேசணும்!…”
ஜகதாச்சார்யனுக்கு, இந்த சிறுவனிடம் அப்படி என்ன பேச வேண்டுமோ? தன் பாதங்களில் விழ வேண்டிய புஷ்பங்களை பகவானே தேர்வு செய்வான்!
எல்லாருக்கும் தீர்த்தம் குடுத்தானதும், வேதபுரியைக் கூப்பிட்டார்.
“தெனோமும் பூ கொண்டு வரயே?……நீயா கொண்டு வரயா? இல்லேன்னா…..யாராவுது சொன்னதுனால கொண்டு வரயா?…”
குழந்தை மனஸில் உள்ள ஸத்யம், பளிச்சென்று வாயிலும் வந்தது!
“கோகிலாப்பாட்டிதான் எங்கிட்ட தெனோமும் பெரியவாளுக்கு இப்டிப் பண்ணு-ன்னு சொன்னா! அதான் செய்யறேன்”
“ஓஹோ! பாட்டி சொல்லித்தான் செய்வியோ? ஏன்? ஒனக்கே தெரியாதா?…….”
“ஆத்துல யாராவுது பெரியவா சொல்லிக் குடுத்தாத்தானே எனக்கு தெரியும்? நா….சின்னக் கொழந்தை, ஒண்ணுமே தெரியாது….சொல்லிக் குடுத்தா செய்வேன்”
“வாடா! என் அன்பு மகனே!…..”
தெய்வம் தன் மகிழ்ச்சியை சிரிப்பாக கொட்டியது.
“எனக்கு ஒன்ன ரொம்ப பிடிச்சிருக்கு…..நீ….எங்கூட வரயா?…..என்ன ஸம்பளம் வேணும்? சொல்லு……”
“உம்மாச்சி என்ன குடுக்கறேளோ, அதை வாங்கிக்கறேன்”
பெரியவாளின் முகத்தில் புன்னகை அரும்பியது.
தன்னையே அல்லவோ முழுஸாகத் தந்துவிட்டார்! கோடிகோடியான பணமெல்லாம் இனி எந்த மூலைக்கு?
“உம்மாச்சி…..என்னோட அம்மா…..நா, சின்னவனா இருக்கச்சயே செத்துப் போய்ட்டா! அப்பாதான் என்னை வளக்கறார். அப்பா, ‘செரி’ன்னு சொன்னா….ஒங்களோட வரேன்”
“நீங்க எத்தனை கொழந்தேள்….. ஒங்க அப்பாக்கு?….”
“நா…..ஒரு அக்கா, ரெண்டு தம்பி. ஒரு தம்பி செத்துப் போய்ட்டான். அக்காவுக்கு கல்யாணமாயி புக்காத்துல இருக்கா…..”
“அப்போ செரி….ஒன்னோட தம்பி, ஒங்கப்பாவை பாத்துக்கட்டும்……நீ, என்னோட வா!…..”
என்ன ஒரு பாக்யம் !
“ஏண்டா வேதபுரி…..பெரியவா என்னடா பேசினா? சொல்லு….”
கோகிலாப்பாட்டி குருநாதரின் திருவாக்கில் வந்ததை கேட்க ஆசைப்பட்டாள்.
“என்னை பாத்து, ‘எங்கூட வரயா?’ன்னு கேட்டா….என்ன ஸம்பளம் வேணுன்னு கேட்டா…..”
“நீ என்னடா சொன்ன?…”
“நா…..பெரியவா என்ன குடுக்கறேளோ, வாங்கிக்கறேன்னு சொன்னேன்…..”
பாட்டியின் முகத்தில் லேஸாக கோபம் தெரிந்தது!
“அசடே! பெரியவாகிட்ட ஸம்பளம்லாம் வாங்கக்கூடாதுடா ! அவரோட க்ருபா கடாக்ஷமே போறும்…ஒங்க குடும்பத்தை காப்பாத்தும்”
“செரி பாட்டி……”
கொஞ்சநாட்கள் கழிந்து, நம்முடைய தாயுமான’குழந்தை’ஸ்வாமி, வேதபுரியின் வாயைக் கிண்டியது……
“என்ன? ஒனக்கு எவ்ளோ ஸம்பளம் வேணும்? சொல்லவேயில்லியே…”
“எனக்கு பெரியவாளோட அனுக்ரஹம் மட்டும் போறும்…”
“ஓஹோ! என்ன? அந்த பணக்காரப்பாட்டி சொன்னாளாக்கும்?…”
“ஆமா…….”
பெரியவாளுக்கு சிரிப்பு வந்துவிட்டது. சாதுர்மாஸ்யம் முடிந்ததும், பெரியவா எசையனூரை விட்டுக் கிளம்பினார். வேதபுரியின் வீட்டுவாஸலில், வேத முதல்வனின் பல்லக்கு நின்றது! வீட்டில் உள்ளவர்கள் எல்லாரும் நமஸ்காரம் செய்தனர். குறுகுறுவென்று பார்த்துக் கொண்டு நின்ற சிறுவன் வேதபுரியிடம்,
“அன்னிக்கி என்னோட வரேன்னியே?……வரயா?….”
“ஓ ! வரேனே!…”
பக்கத்தில் நின்று கொண்டிருந்த கோகிலாப்பாட்டியிடம்,
“என்ன? இந்தக் கொழந்தைய அழைச்சுக்கட்டுமா?……..”
பாட்டியோ, வேதபுரியின் பரம பாக்யத்தை எண்ணியெண்ணி கண்கள் ஆறாகப் பெருக,
“ஈஶ்வரா! பெரியவா இஷ்டம்! பாவம்….தாயில்லாக் கொழந்தை, பெரியவாதான் பாத்துக்கணும்”
“.நீ…..நெறைய்ய செஞ்சுட்ட….இனிமே…..இந்தக் கொழந்தைய… நா…..பாத்துக்கறேன்! [ஆஹா! எப்பேர்ப்பட்ட அனுக்ரஹ அரவணைப்பு!] ஒங்கிட்ட கேக்கறதுக்கு முந்தியே, இவன்ட்ட, எங்கூட வரயான்னு கேட்டேன்….”
அழகாக சிரித்துவிட்டு, வேதபுரியிடம்,
“போ! ஒங்கப்பாக்கு அபிவாதயே சொல்லி, நமஸ்காரம் பண்ணிட்டு, அவர்ட்ட, ‘பெரியவா என்னை கூப்பட்றா……நா, அவரோட போறேன்-ன்னு சொல்லு’……….ஒங்கப்பா, ‘மடத்ல.. ஒன்னை யாரு பாத்துப்பா?-ன்னு கேப்பார்…….அதுக்கு நீ……”என்னை பெரியவா பாத்துப்பா! ஒன்னைத் தம்பி பாத்துப்பான்னு சொல்லு!..”
ஒரு சின்னக் குழந்தைக்கு, ‘மோனோ ஆக்டிங்’ பண்ணி, சொல்லிக் குடுத்து, தன்னுடன் அழைத்துக் கொண்டு போக “ஜகத்குரு” அடமாக இருந்திருக்கிறார் என்றால், வேதபுரி மாமாவின் மஹா மஹா என்று கோடி கோடி மஹா போட்டாலும் அளவிட முடியாத பாக்யத்தை என்னவென்று சொல்லுவது?
வேதபுரி, பெரியவா சொன்னபடி, அக்ஷரம் மாறாமல் அப்பா ஸீதாராமய்யரிடம் ஒப்பித்ததும்,
“ஒரு வேஷ்டி, துண்டு, சொம்பு……எடுத்துண்டு வா!….”
அவ்வளவுதான்!
த்வமேவ மாதா ச பிதா த்வமேவ
த்வமேவ பந்து: ஸகா த்வமேவ
த்வமேவ வித்யா த்ரவிணம் த்வமேவ
த்வமேவ ஸர்வம் மம தேவதேவா……”
இந்த ஸ்லோகம் வேதபுரி என்ற திவ்யமான சிறுவனுக்காகவே பாடப்பட்டதோ என்னவோ? அந்த க்ஷணத்திலிருந்து, பெரியவா என்ற “உம்மாச்சி”தான் அவருக்கு ஸர்வமும் !
பெரியவாளின் பல்லக்கு கிடுகிடுவென்று கிளம்பி வேகமாகப் போய்விட்டது! வேஷ்டி, துண்டு, சொம்பு ஸஹிதம் பெரியவாளைத் தொடர்ந்து ஓடினான் சிறுவன் வேதபுரி! அவன் ஓடி வருவதைப் பார்த்ததும், பெரியவாளின் மாத்ருபாவமும் பெருகி ஓட ஆரம்பித்துவிட்டது! பல்லக்கிலிருந்து எட்டிப் பார்த்து,
“நீ….கொழந்தை….நடக்க முடியாது! அதுனால, பின்னால சின்ன மாட்டுவண்டி வருது பாரு! அதுல ஏறிக்கோ!…”
வேதபுரியின் உயர்ந்த குணம்.. “implicit obedience” ! உடனே பின்னால் வந்த மாட்டுவண்டிக்கு ஓடினான். ஆனால், வண்டியில் இருந்தவர்களோ…..
“நீ சின்னக் கொழந்தடா! ஆத்துல ஒன்னைத் தேடுவா! நீ போ!…” என்று வண்டியில் ஏறவிடவில்லை.
‘ஓடு! பெரியவாளிடம் ! ‘என்று மறுபடி பல்லக்கின் அருகில் ஓடினான்.
“உம்மாச்சி……என்னை வண்டில ஏத்திக்க மாட்டேங்கறா!…”
“செரி….அதோ…..அங்க மண்ணாதி [ஸவாரி] குதிரை மேல போறான் பாரு! அவனைக் கூப்டு!…”
[பெரியவாளுடைய யாத்ரையில், மண்ணாதி என்ற குதிரை ஸவாரி, டக்கா என்ற வாத்யம் வாஸிக்கும் கோஷ்டி, தபால் என்று அந்தந்த ஊர்களில் ஸ்ரீமடத்துக்கு வரும் லெட்டர்களை ஸேகரிப்பது என்று இந்த பரிவாரங்களும் கூடவே போகும்]
வேதபுரி போய்க் கூப்பிட்டதும், குதிரை ஸவாரிக்காரன் பெரியவாளின் பல்லக்கு அருகில் வந்தான்.
“இந்தக் கொழந்தைய ஒன்னோட குதிரைவண்டில ஏத்திக்கோ!….”
“ஸரிங்க எஜமான்..”
இந்த வண்டியில் ஏறும்போதே முன்ஜாக்ரதையாக, “பெரியவா சொல்லித்தான் வந்தேன்! ஆத்துல சொல்லிட்டுத்தான் வந்தேன்” என்று சொன்னதும், வண்டியில் இருந்தவர்கள் வேதபுரியை பயபக்தியுடன் பார்த்தார்கள்.
யாத்ரை, அடுத்து ஏதோ ஒரு ஊரில் நின்றதும், பெரியவா ரொம்ப ஞாபகமாக வேதபுரியை அழைத்து,
“செரி இப்போ சொல்லு……எந்த மாமா ஒன்னை வண்டில ஏத்திக்க மாட்டேன்னு சொன்னா?……”
“எதுக்கு யாரையும் மாட்டிவிடணும் ” என்ற நல்லெண்ணத்தில், ‘இல்லை, வேண்டாம்’ என்று தலையாட்டினான் வேதபுரி.
“ஏண்டா பயப்படறே? அவா ஒன்னை ஆத்துக்கு அனுப்பிடுவான்னு பயமா?….”
“இல்லை…..ஒங்களுக்கு கைங்கர்யம் செய்யக் கெடைக்காதோன்னு பயமா இருக்கு பெரியவா”
இந்த ஒரேயொரு உயர்ந்த சிந்தைக்காகவே, வேதபுரி பெரியவாளுக்கு அணுக்கமானான்.
“நா…..இருக்கேன்! பயப்படாம காட்டு”
வேதபுரி ஒருவரைக் கைகாட்டினான்.
“வெங்கட்ராமா! நாந்தான் கொழந்தைய அழைச்சுண்டு வந்தேன்…….ஜாக்ரதையா பாத்துக்கோ”
“உத்தரவு பெரியவா……”
ஸாதாரண அம்மாவே அன்பின் ஶிகரமாக இருப்பாள்! இவரோ…..ஜகன்மாதா! இந்த பேரன்பை அளக்க முடியுமா?
சிறுவன் வேதபுரி, நம் வேதமாதாவுக்கு செல்லப் பிள்ளையானான்!

Blessed Vedapuri mama.
The Bala Kandam of Sri Vedapuri mama , on whom Sri Maha Periyava had confered the title ‘Brahma Sri’ is so interesting and touching. The diologue appears as though we are hearing Sri Mahaperiyva was speaking in front of us. Thanks for the English translation, without missing interesting moments. Thanks also for the reecorded Interview..to hear fromj him.all these in his own words. I had occasions to see him in Kanchipuram and other places…and I would like to share
a couple of them separaely. which are vivid in our memories..

ஸ்ரீ பெரியவா சரணம்
Here is the English translation of the story.
“Here after I will look after this child”
Brahmasree Vedhapuri mama, who hails from Esaiyanur, was so dear to Periava.
Once, Periava had camped in Esaiyanur for Chathurmasya Vratham. For Vedhapuri, who was eight years old then, his grandmother Kokilapatti’s, (who was a staunch devotee of Periava), words are God’s words.
“Vedhapuri ! you should collect the flowers from the fields daily, and place them in front of Periava and prostrate before Him. Brush your teeth, wear Vibhuthi and then collect the flowers, OK?”
Vedhapuri followed Patti’s instructions most obediently. One day, Swamikal was giving ‘Theertha Prasadham’ to every one after completing Sree Chaandramouleeswarar Puja. When Vedapuri extended his small hands, theertha prasadham fell on his hands, and also an order from Periava.
“Stand here itself in a corner.”
Vedhapuri blinked his eyes not knowing what to say. Periava looked at him, smiled and said, reassuringly, “Do not fear ! I want to talk to you..”.
What is that the Jagat Guru wants to talk to this small boy? God only chooses which flowers have to fall at His feet!
When He had given Prasadham to all, He called Vedhapuri.
“You are bringing flowers daily. Are you doing it of your own free will or as per someone else’s instructions ?”
The sincerity and truthfulness in the child’s mind showed in his reply. “Kokila Patti only told me to do this daily, and that is why I am doing it “
“Oh! You will do it only if Patti tells you ? Why ? do you not know it yourself ?”
“Only if somebody in the house teaches me, I can do it; I am a child; I do not know anything; If somebody tells me Then I will do.”
Periava poured His happiness by laughing!
“I like you very much ! Will you come with me? What is the salary you want ?”
“Whatever ‘Ummachi’ gives me, I will accept..”
A smile showed on Periava’s face.
He has given HIMSELF to him. Where is the need for crores and crores of money ?
“Ummachi ! My mother passed away when I was very small; Father only is bringing me up; If he says ‘yes’ then I will come..”
“How many children are there for your father?”
“Myself, two younger brothers (one of them died), and an elder sister, who was married, and she lives with her husband.”
“OK ! your younger brother will look after your father; you come with me..”
Oh ! What a boon!
“Vedhapuri ! What did Periava tell you ?”—Kokila patti wanted to hear what Gurunathar had said.
“He asked me if I will go with Him and what salary I expected “
“What did you tell Him?”
“I told Him that whatever Periava would give, I will accept”
A faint anger showed on Patti’s face.
“You dumb fellow ! You should not ask salary from Periava. His blessings are enough to protect your family”
“OK Patti…”
After a few days, our ‘Thaymana ‘Kuzhandai Swami’ teased Vedhapuri.
“You have not yet told me how much salary you want.”
“Periava’s Anugraham is enough for me…”
“Oh ! that rich Patti told you so ?”
“Yes..”
Periava laughed. Periava was leaving Esaiyanur after Chathurmasyam was completed. The palanquin of Periava (‘Veda Muthalvan’) stopped in front of Vedhapuri’s house. All those in the house prostrated before Periava. He asked that small boy, “You told me that day, that you would go with me. Are you coming?”
“Oh Yes, I will come..”
He then asked Kokila Patti who was standing nearby, “ Can I take this child ?”
Patti, with tears welling up in the eyes, said, “Eswara! It is Periava’s will. He has lost his mother. Periava only has to take care of him..”
“You have done a lot to him; Here after I will take care of him; (Oh! What a show of Karunyam and Anugraham!); Before I asked you, I have asked him whether he is willing to come with me..”
He smiled and told Vedhapuri, “ Go ! Do ‘Abhivathayae’ to your father and tell him that Periava is calling you and You are willing to go.. Your father will ask who will look after you in the MaTam; tell him that Periava will look after you and brother will look after him..”
Can we ever imagine the magnitude of the boon that Vedhapuri got, the way ‘Jagath Guru’ was adamant in taking him with him, by doing mono—acting and coaching him !
Vedhapuri went to his father and told him verbatim what Periava told him.
“Go and bring a Dhothi, towel and a ‘sombu’ (small brass pot).”
“Thvameva Matha cha Pitha thvameva
Thvameva Bandhu; sakaa thvameva
Thvameva Vidhya dhravinam thvameva
Thvameva sarvam mama deva devaa….”
May be the above sloka was sung with Vedhapuri in mind ! From that moment, Ummaachi (Periava) was ‘Everything’ for him.
Periava’s palanquin started to move fast.Vedhapuri ran behind it with a dhothi, towel and a ‘sombu’. When Periava saw him coming running, Periva’s ‘Motherly love’ showed up. He looked out of the palanquin and told him, “ My dear child, you will not be able to come by walk; go and get into the bullock cart which is coming behind…”
Vedhapuri’s best trait is his implicit obedience. He ran to the cart. But those in the cart told him, “ You are a child; your people at home will search for you; go back..” and did not allow him to get in.
He ran back to Periava. “Ummachi ! They are not allowing me..”
“Ok ! Can you see the person who is riding the horse ? go and call him..”
When Vedhapuri called him, he came and stood before Periava.
“Take this child in your horse cart..”
“Ok, Sir ..”
When he got into that cart, he told those in it, that he had come there as per Periava’s wish and that he has also taken permission from home. After hearing this, they all looked at him with respect.
When the journey stopped next, Periava called Vedhapuri and asked him, “who refused to allow you in the cart ?”
With the good thought of not willing to accuse somebody, he nodded his head negatively.
“Why are you scared ? are you afraid that they will send you home ?”
‘No Periava . I am afraid that I might lose the opportunity of serving you “
Vedhapuri became so dear and near to Periava only because of this exemplary quality.
“I am there ! Tell me ! do not be scared “
Vedhapuri pointed his finger at a particular person.
“Venkatrama! I only brought this boy ! Do look after him well !”
“Yes Periava”
Normally, Mother’s love is the greatest; but This Jaganmatha’s love cannot be measured !
The little boy Vedhapuri became the favoured child of the Vedamatha!
மஹாபெரியவாளின் காருண்யத்தை எண்ணி உருகுவதா ? வேதபுரி மாமாவின் மஹாபாக்யத்தை எண்ணி உருகுவதா? இதையெல்லாம் கைசோர விட்டுவிட்டோமே என்று நம்முடைய துரதிருஷ்தத்தை எண்ணி கலங்குவதா ? பகவானே ! அந்த மஹா ஆத்மன் மறுபடி இப் பூவுலகில் அவதரித்தால், எனக்கும் அப்பொழுது ஒர் ஜன்மா கொடு, வேதபுரி மாமாவைப்போல் என்னையும் அவரோடு சேர்த்துவிடு !

As in many other narratives, a line-by-line imaginary write-up in pure cinematic style. Let us discuss Sri Mahaperiyavaa’s teachings and try to understand and follow them rather than exult in arm-chair enjoyment by reading such imaginary stories.
On what basis you are saying these are imaginary lines ? Your advice to read His teachings and follow them is well appreciated. But to make such commentary on a true story is, in my opinion, in bad taste.
There are no words to express my EMOTION, except to shed tears . How much the parents are blessed to have a child like him.

I read this book & simply cannot express my experience in words. Wonderful book.

Oh my God! What a janma was that of Vedapuri mama. And what Grace? No words, only tears at the Jaganmatha’s feet.
