Go to Swaamimalai. The idol is getting ready !

Thanks to Dr Rajaram for his mail to share this experience.

(Address of this ashram – Maruthi Ashram.  Lalithanagaram. Waltair. A P)

My Dad was a medical student at King George Medical college/hospital at Vizag. He passed out in 1941. His colleague( college mate) was one Dr Sripaada Pinaakapaani ( Sangeetha Kalaanidhi) revered as a Bheeshmaachaaryaa in Carnatic Music. Both of them as students had visited one Maruthi Ashram Lalithanagaram Waltair and had deep respects for Maruthi Daasan Sri Krishnamurthy who has built that temple inside his house. The origin of that temple has a holy connection with MahaPeriyavaa.

During British rule, there was  some political unrest at Waltair & the situation went out of control suddenly one morning & police resorted to firing. Very unfortunately a stray bullet hit a boy going to school & he died. That boy was the only son of this Krishnamurthy who was then working in the Vizag Port. Already a simple devoted person, he now entered into the stage of Vairaaghyaa to conquer over this terrible tragedy. He had a vision of Lord Maruthi who it seems told him the reason behind that and asked him to build a temple in  his house  !  The Lord also directed him to go to Mahaa Periyavaa for that purpose. At the same time Lord Anjaneya told Periyavaa about Krishnamurthy & asked Him to help him !

Thrilled at the vision, Krishnamurthy went to see the Seer at Kanchi. It seems as he entered the Mutt, the  Seer said,” Are you not that Krishnamurthy ? Go to Swaamimalai. The idol is getting ready !” ( No need for me to say Krishnamurthy did not open his mouth but it was Periyavaa who spoke to him first !).

At Swamimalai about 4 feet high idol of Maruthi was getting ready for him ! Now how to do the installation at Waltair ? Perivayaa asked him to go to Saraswati mahal library (Tanjore) and get all details about Anjaneya Prathishtaapanaa method from a book. When he went there and asked the librararian, he himself did not know about any such book in the library!  But Periyavaa can not be wrong. Finally after a long search they found a book in which at some particular page , the Prathishtaapanaa method was detailed ! The librararian never knew about it before !

The rest of events went on smooth. Much later , when I was doing Medicine in Calcutta Medical college ( in 1965), my Dad wanted me to visit this Maruthi Ashram and told me the whole story. With a lot of excitement I went there with my parents carrying a garland of dates. Sri Krishnamurthy( called MaruthiDasan) welcomed us, put that garland on the idol and after a while we took food. Then we came close to the idol and Lo ! I really saw with my own eyes some of the dates half-eaten, a covered vessel on the floor was opened and I did see the marks on the surface of sarakkari Pongal Naivaedya Prasadam dent marks as if a monkey has put its hands and eaten a little bit !  I also saw particles of water( looked like sweat !) on Lord Maruthis body ! There was one more surprise for me . Sri Krishnamurthy started talking to the Lord  as if he was taking to anybody ! ” என்னப்பா ! வேர்கறதா? வெயில் காலம் ஆச்சே ! Fan போடறேன் !” I was wondering to whom he was talking to !

I remember after a while he sang some songs composed by him . One particular song “வடை கடித்து வினை தீர்க்கும் வாயுகுமாரனே ” in Kamaas Raaga was soul touching. For several years we used to receive Prasadam by post from Maruthi Ashram.

It seems he would decorate Maruthi as per the festival like, he’d dress him like Krishna during Gokulaashtami, as Devi during Navarathri & so on. I do have a photo of that Lord in my  Pooja room.

When I was interviewed( audio/video recording) at Malleswaram on this subject I showed this photo . Many of us might have known about this house cum temple at Waltair but the connection with MahaaPeriyavaa has somehow not reached many in our circle. Hence this mail.

I am forwarding this mail to Sri Mahesh to consider publication in his wordpress net work.

Regards
Dr Rajaram

  1. I see a comment by me which tells me I have been here before. Fantastic.

  2. Many of you are asking this question: Where is the temple? Temple is known by the name of “Maruti Asramam”. It is actually a house which is quite easy to miss if there is no guide. Maybe, taking an auto is wise.

It is very close to “Sangam Office Junction” in Akkayyapalem.

Other way to get to this place is maybe ask someone in nearby temple. One of the landmark temples nearby is “Lalitha Devi Temple” (– this is actually another place you should not be missing to visit). “Maruti Asramam” is about 1km or so away from Lalitha Temple in Lalitha Nagar- Visakhapatnam.

Reason for me to stop by this page is because – I had a color photograph of Anjaneya swamy from this temple. Unfortunately, it got deformed. I am looking for a color photograph of the presiding diety – Sri Hanuman.

Please email me at ‘nenejaja1 at yahoo dot com’ if you happen to visit this place and can pass me a photograph from that place.

    Thank you very much.

  3. can you share full address to get prasadam please?

  4. One more info.
I remember now one more news what Sri Maruthi Dasan was telling us in our 1965 visit over there which I wish to share with our readers. Sri Maruthi Dasan had observed an obvious change in the colour of the idol from its installation ie in about 25 or 30 years period of time ! There was more “Panchaloka hue” ( I do not know what he meant by that … probably more golden shine) compared to the color when it was installed.

  15. Oh, what a touching experience!
Wonder-struck how Periyava had a pervasive presence every where !
Very sorry that I missed this home temple though I dad lived for over 4 years in Vizag in the eighties.

  16. Can you please give the address of the place??

  17. “வடை கடித்து வினை தீர்க்கும் வாயுகுமாரனே ” Sri Rama Rama Rama, ananta koti Namaskaram. May I offer my prayers before you to save my country from foreign rule, and from being taken over by foreign faiths through conversion. Please tell us what praayaschitam we need to perform for getting rid of this peedai.

    • This is exactly the point: If anyone can save the country, it is Sri Hanuman. It has been shown already in history, Sri Vyasaraja installed 732 images of Hanuman in the South to check the spread of Islamic rule. The method of worship was simple and it united the people. Goswami Tulsidas was inspired by Hanuman to compose Sri Ram Charit Manas and it strengthened the Hindus during the Mughal rule. Then Samarth Ramdas installed Hanuman images for common worship (when construction of new temples or renovation of old temples was banned by the Muslim sultans.) He also inspired Shivaji Maharaj to establish Hindu Swaraj.

If today Hindus suffer, it it because they have forgotten Hanuman. Christians pray together. Muslims pray together (in congregation ). Hindus never pray together. Even when crowds visit temples, each one prays for himself. We never pray for the country. Hanuman is common to all. If all sects of Hindus can pray in common to Hanuman for the country, no enemy or alien faith can stand against us.

  18. Fantastic Mail,to be preserved by every one.It is most appropriate & befitting time, the mail has come, as HANUMATH JAYANTHI falls on 9th of JANUARY 2016. There cannot be a better time than this. Our loads &loads of THAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAANKS,for I happened to be a blessed one to receive the mail.

  19. Amazing. Periavaa gives one the strength to over come grief.

The anjaneyar photo looks like the anjaneyar of namakkal , salem. Here there is no roof for the murtjhi as they believe that HE. ( anjaneya swami keeps growing).

Even the side stone mandabam looks similar.

  20. very interesting and so far not known fact. Thanks to all concerned for sharing.
One doubt whether the Anjaneyar photo is from that house? From the height it looks like from some other place. If I am correct the photo from that house if published would be more suitable and useful.
