“சோ” எழுதின கட்டுரையில் ஒரு பகுதி.
ஒருமுறை நான்,ஆடிட்டர் குருமூர்த்தி,அருண்ஷோரி இன்னும் சிலரும் காஞ்சிக்கு மஹா ஸ்வாமிகளைப் பார்க்கப் யிருந்தோம்.ஸ்வாமிகள் நாங்கள் போனபோது ஒரு கோயிலில் உட்கார்ந்திருந்தார்.
அருண்ஷோரியின் மகனுக்கு உடலில் ஒரு பிரச்னை உண்டு. அது அவருடைய மனதை வருத்தப்பட வைத்திருந்தது. மஹா ஸ்வாமிகளை நாங்கள் பார்த்துவிட்டுத் திரும்பியதும் என்னிடம் அருண்ஷோரி கேட்டார்.
“பையனோட பிரச்னை பற்றி ஸ்வாமிகள் கிட்டே கேட்கலாமா?”
“தாராளமாகக் கேட்கலாம்”
நாங்கள் இருவரும் பேசிக்கொண்டு போனதை அதற்குள் கவனித்துவிட்ட ஸ்வாமிகள் எங்களை மறுபடியும் அழைத்தார். அருண்ஷோரியிடம் மெதுவாக விசாரித்தார். அவரும் ஸ்வாமிகளிடம் மகனுடைய பிரச்னையைப் பற்றிச் சொன்னார்.
கேட்டூவிட்டு,அருண்ஷோரியை தனக்குப் பக்கத்தில் உட்காரச் சொன்னார்.ஸ்வாமிகள்.பிரசாதம் கொடுத்தார்.
“இந்தக் கோயிலில் உட்கார்ந்து தியானம் பண்ணிக்கலாமா?” கேட்டார்.அருண்ஷோரி.
“இங்கே தியானம் பண்ண என்னுடைய அனுமதி உங்களுக்குத் தேவ்வையில்லை.நீங்க என்னுடைய பக்கத்தில் உட்கார்ந்து தியானம் பண்ணுங்க. நானும் உங்களோடு தியானம் பண்றேன்” என்று ஸ்வாமிகள் சொல்லிவிட்டு அருண்ஷோரியுடன் தியானம் பண்ணினார்.
நாங்கள் வெளியே நின்று கொண்டிருந்தோம்.
“இந்த மாதிரியான மனம் நிம்மதியா இருக்கிற அனுபவம் இதுவரை எனக்குக் கிடைச்சதில்லை” என்று நெகிழ்வுடன் என்னிடம் சொன்னார் அருண்ஷோரி.
மகா பெரியவருடன் சேர்ந்து தியானம் பண்ணுகிற மகத்தான அனுபவம் எல்லோருக்கும் லேசில் கிடைக்காது.
அருண்ஷோரிக்கு வாய்த்தது. ஏனென்றால் அவர் அவ்வளவு நல்ல மனிதர்.

Once myself, Auditor Gurumurthy, Journalist Arun Shourie and a few others went to Kanchi to have Darshan of Mahaswamigal. That time Swamigal was seated in a Temple.
Arun Shourie’s son was suffering from bad health and as a result Shourie was feeling down. After having His darshan we started to walk on our way back, when Arun Shourie asked me:
“Shall I submit to Swamigal about my son’s health issue?”
“Definitely!”, said I.
Swamigal must have heard us talking and hence He called us back! He enquired about his son and Shourie apprised him of his son’s problem. Swamigal asked him to sit near Him and gave him Prasadam!
“Can I meditate in this Temple?”, asked Arun to Him.
Swamigal replied, “You do not need my permission to Meditate! You can proceed with your meditation and I will also join you in your Meditation, sitting besides you!”
And They Both Meditated!
While this was happening, the rest of us were standing outside.
Arun Shourie gushed to me in Joy, “My mind has never been this peaceful in my life, like what happened now!”
Not everyone will have the golden opportunity to Meditate along with Mahaswamigal! But Arun Shourie was blessed with that experience because he is a very nice person!

What an incident!
While doing some homework for this article, I found that Arun Shourie’s son Aditya has Cerebral Palsy, a condition that disrupts the ‘wiring’ between the brain and the rest of the body. The term cerebral palsy refers to any one of a number of neurological disorders that appear in infancy or early childhood and permanently affect body movement and muscle coordination. Now I understand that his wife Anita is suffering from Schizoprenia, which is a chronic, severe and disabling brain disorder.

Today, November 2nd is the 74th birthday of Arun Shourie. He is a famous Journalist, Author and was even a Cabinet Minister once.
May Swamigal’s grace always be with his family!

What statement and what betrayal?

Just a couple of hours ago got a call from a friend saying Arun Shourie had made some statements during a recent TV interview completely reversing his stand. Everyrhing one has admired him for. A very articulate scholar with a deep understanding of Sanathana Dharma. Have to get confirmation. But the timing was amazing. Needless to say one feels completely betrayed by Shouries act.
None is spared of Karma vinay palan. That is the universal law. Even noble souls like Arun Shourie is no exception. I pray to Periyava to give him a state of equanimity of mind like Sri Ramachandra Murthy who did not jump in joy when he was asked to take vows for the coronation time that was fixed in a few hours from then nor was he unruffled when he was asked to enter the forest for two times seven years immediately at the time the coronation ceremony was to start ! In fact kamban marvels that Rama was like a lotus that had just then bloomed when he was banished by Kaikeyi to the forest!!
Who can forget that even for Pradosham mama had intha mathari oru kuzanthai – periyava called that baby as Rishi Kumaran and bade Queen of Greece to have his darshan. Inscrutable are the way Karma functions across space and time. How can we not at least pause to listen and think when Sivan sir gives a thundering message that we are scripting our future right now by our deeds and misdeeds?

Thank you for this post. Arun Shourie has written a book “Does He know a mother’s heart?” that describes all the hardships that the family went through as well as his own quest to find the cause of misery. Arun Shourie was very fortunate to be blessed by Periyava.
