  1. The place seems to be the one in Kanchi mutt In Rameswaram Agni Tirtha. As the Kaladi Keerthi sthamba is very tall, the one in the picture is just about 15 to 20 feet high, and the inscription stones on the octagon looks to be only Rameswaram.

  2. These photos were taken during the Kumbabishekam of the Sankara Keerthi Sthambam in Kalady. It can be clearly noticed Periava had participated in that function. While He had been to Kaladi, He did not visit the Sankara Mutt there.

  3. Also it was Sringeri Mutt which propagated Kalady right from 1910s and the same had to be kept in mind and hence the Keerthisthambam etc in Kalady

    • Sir, In Deivanthin Kural (part 5) even Shri Mahaperiyava himself while elaborating story of Adi Shankara Bhagawat Padal he has very well told the birth place as Kalady and also it is near to Thrishur where the parents go and pray in ThiruVadakunathan Swami’s temple. Hence it is beyond doubt that Kalady is the birth place of Adi Shankara Bhagawat Padal. Mahaperiyava didn’t go Kalady may be incidental. Jaya Jaya Shankara Hara Hara Shankara.

    • The place where Sringeri have their branch in Kaladi is the place which belongs to Tekke Sankaracharya Madam and have taken it on lease from them about 40 years back. Tekke Madam has been maintaining this place for ages so can;t understand how Sringeri Mutt claims to have propagated it even though it could be to their own devotees.

  4. Very good. One rather inexplicable fact is that Sri Mahaperiyavaa never visited Kalady Kshetra. While HE has visited Kerala several times starting from 1920s, there has been no visit to Kalady.
One plausible explanation is that Sri Mahaperiyavaa was not 100% convinced that Kalady was the birthplace of Adi Shankara and it was close to Chidambaram as some of the Shankara Vijayams also say.
Though there are references to Kalady in Deivathin Kural and there was a KeerthiSthambam erected in Kalady, there was still a thought that it was Chidambaram only.
Else there is no explanation for not visiting Kalady

    • The reason why Mahapaeriyava did not go to Kaladi is because Tekke Madam swamigal informed that Sanyassis should not eat or drink in kaladi because of the Adi Sankara curse.. So Mahaperiyava did not go but asked Sri Jayendra saraswati swamigal to go to Kaladi. So Pudu periyava went to Kaladi on a Ekadashi day and performed pooja at Tekke madam which is presently on lease to Sringeri..
