21. பசுவுக்கு ஒரு வாயுறை
– Jaya Jaya Shankara Hara Hara Shankara – All these chapters Periyava beautifully explained the divinity of Gho Matha in great length and breadth. Now Periyava starts calling out the action part, “What we need to do to protect Gho Matha”?. After reading this chapter, we all should take a ‘Sankalpam’ that we give at least a bunch of grass to Gho Matha every day. Let’s not dismiss it by saying we cannot find cows anymore in the Cities. There are cow sheds that exist almost in every part of the City in Bharatha Desam. Mostly they are used for commercial purposes. We need to take sometime (one time effort!) to find them close to our place so this kainkaryam can be done consistently. Even if not weekdays, let us at least target weekends/holidays. We still see cow traffic in many places of Chennai, although it may not be significant. Periyava says in the following chapter “When there is a will there is a way and we definitely need to have will on this one.” I agree it is tough in foreign countries (with few exceptions) but they can contribute through money to Ghosalas to feed one cow daily. Let’s pray to Periyava to make this happen as without his grace and blessings nothing moves an inch. As mentioned in another post by Shri Mahesh, let’s offer our ego to Periyava and do this kainkaryam with utmost sincerity as it is our foremost duty to protect Gho Matha who has given us everything for generations. தெய்வமாகப் பூஜை பண்ணுவது இருக்கட்டும். அது சிலர்தான் பண்ண முடியும். ஆனால் a பண்ண வேண்டிய முக்கிய கடமையாக ஒன்று இருக்கிறது. கோவுக்கு ஆஹாரம் போடுவதுதான் அது. ஒவ்வொருவரும் ஒவ்வொரு நாளும் ஒரு பசுவுக்குக் கைப்பிடி அளவு புல்லாவது கொடுக்கவேண்டும். ‘கோ க்ராஸம்’ என்று இதை சாஸ்த்ரத்தில் சொல்லியிருக்கிறது. ‘க்ராஸம்’ என்றால் ஒரு வாய் ஆஹாரம். ‘கோ க்ராஸம்’ என்பதை வைத்துத்தான் புல்லுக்கு இங்கிலீஷில் grass என்று பெயர் வந்திருக்கிறது. திருமூலர் ‘திருமந்திர’த்தில் ப்ரதி தினமும் ஜீவர்கள் செய்யவேண்டிய கடமைகளில், ஈச்வரனுக்கு ஒரு பச்சிலை; அதாவது வில்வ பத்ரமேனும் அர்ச்சிப்பது, ஒரு கைப்பிடியாவது ஆஹாரம் பிச்சை போடுவது ஆகிய இரண்டுக்கும் நடுவில் கோக்ராஸம் கொடுப்பதையும் சொல்லியிருக்கிறார். முடிவாக ஜீவர்களிடம் இனிமையாகப் பேசுவதையும் சொல்லியிருக்கிறார்.
யாவர்க்குமாம் இறைவற்கொரு பச்சிலை,
யாவர்க்குமாம் பசுவுக்கொரு வாயுறை,
யாவர்க்குமாம் உண்ணும்போதொரு கைப்பிடி,
யாவர்க்குமாம் பிறர்க்(கு) இன்னுரைதானே.

21. A bunch of grass for Mother Cow Every Day
Only some people can do puja to the cow treating it as divine. But there is a important duty that is to be performed by everyone – giving fodder to the cow. Every day we have to give a tleast a handful of grass to the cow. Sasthras refer to this as ‘Gho Grasam’. ‘Grasam’ means a mouthful of food. It is from ‘Gho grasam’ that the English word ‘grass’ has been derived. In his Thirumandhiram, Thirumular has mentioned the duty of giving ‘Gho Grasam’ in between the duty of offering a leaf (bilva) to Iswara and giving alms. Ram Ram
