Lord_Nandhi_guru

(Can someone please explain the story behind this photo?? Curious to know!! )

  1. Nandhesa with disciple Tirumoolar…slokam in tamil points to that only

    • Yes. It should be Lord Nandhi with Tirumoolar. In Tirumandiram, Tirumoolar mentions that Nandhi was his Guru. The name Nandhi is repeated in a number of places in Tirumandiram.

  2. One favourite quote in Sutha samhita often quoted by Mahaperiya in his earlier discourses was
Gurur Pitha Gurur matha Gurur daivam Gurur gatihi Sive rushite Gurustratha Gurau rushte na kaschana meaning that for a sadhaka Guru is everything and if Siva gets angry Guru can save and if Guru gets angry even Siva cannot save

  3. Lord Nandikeswara Teaches Saint Aghasthyar! Sri Gurubhyo Namaha! Hara Hara Shankara, Jaya Jaya Shankara!

  4. The Siddhars are many and the lists of the 18 main Siddhars differ from each other. But it is generally accepted that Sivan is the fIrst of Siddhars. He was teacher to Nandiswara, who was teacher to others, which list again differs. This picture seems to be an illustration of Nandiswara teaching his disciple.
Rishabadeva, the fIrst of the Jaina Thirthankaras is a very great Siddhar, who is believed to be Nandiswara’s shishyar. He was the ruler of JambuDvipa. His son Bharatha was the sovereign of our land which we call BharathaVarsha after him. His brother Bahubali, who first fought with Bharatha over the land and kingship, became a realized sage, and is known as Gomateswara, another Jaina Tirthankara.
It is Gomateswara’s monolithic statue that is at Sravanabelagola. It is the biggest monolith in the world.
Chandragupta Maurya, the Maurya Emperor, came to this place in his old age, after his Sanyaasaashrama, and meditated here in a cave, till his end.
This story of the two brothers is one of the inspiring ones that children enjoy listening to, even our TV, internet generation.

I hope this post is not out of place in this space dedicated to the Periaval.
