(ஸ்ரீமடம் பொறுப்பிலிருந்து முற்றிலுமாக விலகிக் கொண்டபிறகு (பெரியவா) நடந்த சம்பவம்)

ஸ்ரீமடத்தின் நிர்வாகத்திலுள்ள கோவில்களில் நித்யபூஜை,விசேஷ பூஜை,உற்சவம் எல்லாம் ஒழுங்காக நடைபெறவேண்டுமே? அந்தக் காலத்தில் ஸ்ரீமடம் நிர்வாகத்திலிருந்த பல கோவில்களில் பொருளாதாரம் வரவு-சிலவுக்கு ஈடுகட்ட முடியாத நிலையில் தான் இருந்தது. ஸ்ரீபுதுப்பெரியவாள் இந்தத் துறையில் கவனம் செலுத்தினார்கள். ‘ஸ்ரீபங்காரு காமாக்ஷி அம்மன் நித்ய பூஜா டிரஸ்ட்’ என்ற அறக்கட்டளையைத் துவக்கினார்கள்.அந்த அறக்கட்டளையின் முழு விவரத்தையும், மகாப்பெரியவாளிடம் விண்ணப்பித்து அவர்கள் இசைவைப் பெற்றுக்கொண்டு வரும்படி பணித்தார்கள், புதுப் பெரியவாள்.

டிரஸ்ட் நிர்வாகிகளுடன், ஸ்ரீ அம்மன் பிரசாதம் எடுத்துக் கொண்டு நானும் செல்ல வேண்டும் என்று உத்திரவாயிற்று.

மகாப் பெரியவாள் ஷோலாப்பூர் அருகில் ஒரு கிராமத்தில் முகாம்.

முகாம் இருப்பிடத்தைத் தேடிப்பிடித்துக்கொண்டு சென்றோம்.

பெரியவாள் முன்னிலையில் நின்றோம்.

அணுக்கத் தொண்டர்,சற்று பெரிய குரலில் கூறினார்.

‘தஞ்சாவூர் பங்காரு காமாக்ஷி அம்மன் கோவில் டிரஸ்டிகள் தரிசனத்துக்கு வந்திருக்கா. ஸ்தானிகர் பிரஸாதம் கொண்டு வந்திருக்கார்…’

‘முதலில் பிரசாதம் கொடு’-என்று சமிக்ஞை.

ஒரு மூங்கில் தட்டில், ஒரு சாதரா,வாடிப்போன நிர்மால்ய மாலை,புஷ்கலமாகக் குங்குமம்.

குங்குமத்தை நெற்றியில் இட்டுக்கொண்டு, மாலையை கண்ணில் ஒற்றிக்கொண்டார்கள்.

“இன்னும் என்ன இருக்கு..”

‘அம்பாள் பிரசாதமாக, ஒரு சால்வை..’

மகாபெரியவா கண்களில் ஒரு தேஜஸ். நெஞ்சில் ஏதோ நினைவோட்டம்.

“ஸ்தானீகரைக் கூப்பிடு..”

நான் சற்று அருகே சென்றேன். பாதாதிகேசம் அருட்புனலால் ஒரு நீராட்டு.

“நீ….சங்கரசாஸ்திரிகள் புத்திரன் தானே?.

‘ஆமா..’

“என்ன ஒற்றுமை பார்! நான் பட்டத்துக்கு வந்தபோது,அவர்தான் சாதரா கொண்டு வந்து,
பூவாலேயே அபிஷேகம் பண்ணி…ஹ்ம்?.. அப்புறம் பிரசாதம் கொடுத்தார். மடத்தின்
மூலமா, அவருக்குப் பதில் மரியாதை கூடப் பண்ணினோம்…தெரியுமோ?….”

‘அப்பா சொல்லியிருக்கார்…’

யுகமாகக் கழிந்த இரு விநாடிகள்.”நீயும் அவரைப் போலவே…சாதரா,நிர்மால்யம், குங்குமம் கொண்டு வந்திருக்கே. உனக்கும் பதில் மரியாதை செய்யணும்…ஆனா..என்னிடம் ஒண்ணுமேயில்லை; நான், அகிஞ்சனன். (ஒரு பைசா கூட வைத்துக்கொள்ளாதவன்..)

(ஸ்ரீமடம் பொறுப்பிலிருந்து முற்றிலுமாக விலகிக் கொண்டபடியால், இவ்வாறு கூறினார்கள்.)

மௌன இடைவெளி.

“இவனுக்கு,ஒரு முத்திரைப்பவுன் வாங்கி பதில் மரியாதை செய்தால், தேவலை. உங்களால்
யாராலேயாவது முடியுமோ?…”

அந்த கிராமத்தில் நகைக்கடை ஏது? சில மாதர்கள் நகைகளைக் கழற்றிக் கொடுக்கத்
தயாராக இருந்தார்கள்.ஆனால்,பெரியவாள் முத்திரைப் பவுன் அல்லவா,கேட்கிறார்கள்.?

இந்தப் பரபரப்பில்,எனக்கு அழுகையே வந்து விட்டது. ‘பெரியவா, தன்னை அகிஞ்சனன் என்று எப்படிச் சொல்லலாம்’ என்று மனம் பரிதவித்தது.

கண்ணீர் விட்டபடியே நமஸ்காரம் செய்தேன்.

‘பெரியவாளோட அனுக்ரஹம் எங்களுக்கு இருந்தால் போதும்..காமாக்ஷி கருணையிலே
நாங்கள் எல்லாம் சௌக்கியமாகவே இருக்கோம்.

விம்மினேன், பெரியவா பரிவுடன் கடாக்ஷித்தார்கள்.

“இதே எண்ணத்தோடே இருந்து கொண்டிரு. கடைசிவரை க்ஷேமமாய் இருப்பாய்…”

ஆனால்,பெரியவாள் வெற்றுச் சொல்லுடன் நின்றுவிடவில்லை. முடிகொண்டான் கிராமத்தைச் சேர்ந்த ஒரு தனிகரிடம் சொல்லி, விரைவில் முத்திரைப் பவுன் அனுப்பிவைத்தார்கள்.

ஸ்தானீர்களாய நாங்கள் பங்காரு காமாக்ஷிக்கும் பரமாசார்யாளுக்குமிடையே, எந்த ஒரு பேதத்தையும் காண்பதில்லை.

(This incident happened after Periyava totally disassociated himself from the day to day functioning of the Sri Matam)

At that time many temples which were under the management of the Sri Matam were struggling to make both ends meet for conducting the daily pooja, special pooja and the festivals. Sri Pudu Periyaval (Sri Jayendra saraswathi swamigal) was looking after this aspect and started a Trust called Sri Bangaru Kamakshi Amman Nithya Pooja Trust. He asked the trustees to visit maha Periyava in his camp at a village near Sholapur and apprise Him about the formation of the Trust and seek His blessings for the same.

The narrator of this piece was also instructed to go with the trustees with Ambal’s prasadam. We went to Sholapur and after enquiries found where Maha Periyava was camping and went there and prostrated before Maha Periyava. His attendant announced our presence in a loud voice that the Trustees of Thanjavur Sri Bangaru Kamakshi Amman Kovil Trust have come for darsan and the Sthaneegar (the narrator) has brought prasadam.

Periyava signalled that the prasadam be given first. We reverently placed the prasadam consisting of a faded flower garland and kumkumam in a bamboo basket and presented the same to Periyava. Periyava took some kumkumam and placed it on his forehead, took the garland and placed it on his eyes reverently. He then asked what else? The attendant said that a shawl has also been brought as prasadam of Ambal.

There was a flash of recollection of some past happening in the eyes of Periyava and he called out for the Sthaneegar to come before him. The narrator presented himself and felt the grace of compassion permeate his body from toe to top.

” Are you not the son of Sankara sastrigal?” asked Periyava.

The narrator answered in the affirmative.

Periyava continued ” Look at the similarity. When I came to the peetam it was he who came with the prasadam and showered me with flowers. We also gave him a return gift from the matam.”

The narrator said that he came to know about this from his father. Two seconds passed in silence and it appeared as if an eon had passed.

Periyava said, ” You have also done likewise and brought prasadam and kumkumam. I have to give you a return gift but I have nothing with me. Yes I am a pauper”.

Periyava said so perhaps because he had given up the day to day administration of the Sri Matam.

Again there was a silence.

Periyava resumed ” It would be worthy if someone can give him a gold coin (sovereign) as a return gift. Can someone do so?”

The narrator was flabbergasted. With his eyes brimming with tears he prostrated before Periyava and said that it is enough if the grace of Periyava was with him and that he was well off on account of the compassion of Devi Kamakshi.

Periyava smiled and blessed ” Be with this thought and you will be happy till the last.”

He did not stop there. He had a gold sovereign sent to him soon after through a wealthy person from Mudikondan village.

The narrator concludes that they the Sthaneegar of the temple do not find any difference between Bangaru Kamakshi and Paramacharyal.
