  3. Circa 1975. Lalgudi and his wife go to Thenambakkam to take the Darshan of Kanchi Maha Periyava. There, a sad event had taken place.By way of expressing His displeasure at the conduct of one of the Sippandis of the SriMatham, Periyava had shut Himself up in a room and was observing Kaashta Mounam. No food or water. He was not speaking with anybody.

Seeing no other way out, Lalgudi somehow controlled his desire to meet Paramacharya. However, he decided to play a few of his songs as offering to that Mahan.

He started his rendition with a song in the Saama raagam – a raagam to which Periyava had a special liking. After that, he began playing the song ‘Sabapathikku veru deivam samaanam aaguma?’ in the raagam Aabogi. When Lalgudi was playing the line ‘Kripanidhi ivarai pola’ in a variety of ways, the window of the room in which Periyava was staying opened. When the song was drawing to a close, the door also opened. His Hand raised in blessing, Acharya Swamigal came out.

Lalgudi and the others present there were totally thrilled.

  8. It is so amazing that during Maha Periyava’s time, none wd do anything, even so an unimportant event, without His blessings.I recall an incident when as usual there was a long queue to get His darshan.Next to me was a humble devotee,a non-Brahmin,with a book..suddenly Periyava skipped the VIPs and and called him..He showed a book which he had just published on Brahadeeswarar Temple..Periyava asked him :”Are you a sthapathi?”
    “Yes”
“What do you do for a living ..getting any good remunerative work?”
    He was weeping uncontrollably.
    Silence everywhere..
Periyava asked him to meet sthapathi Ganapathi and ‘ tell him that “I” sent you to him’
He was very happy and wanted to take Utharavu, when Periyava suddenly analysed his book..
Some of the qns were so pertinent, like,
    “yenda..intha Gopuram uyarathukkum,nandikkum irukkira idathukkum,proportionate aa
    Illaiye intha padam..?”
He accepted he had copied certain pics from somewhere else..
Periyava smilingly told him that doesnt change His recommendation to meet Ganapathy..
I saw him prostrating saying “Sankara!Sankara!”
Divinity is to be seen..Blessed are those to have had such occasions!

  9. There is a very rare pic of Lalgudi and accompaniments playing infront of Maha Periyava on a crowded Thinnai..somewhere..I think Lalgudi released a unique CD Veena Venu Gana with all instruments including the Veena and he wanted Periyava’s blessings..it wd be appropriate if that photo is uploaded in this site!

  10. indha naan enkira ennam eppothu pokum entru kaththukondirukkenae periavale, shankaraaaaaa
