An Article on “Mettur”

A well-written article by Mrs Sujatha Vijayaraghavan …It appears that it came in a newspaper….

In the last paragraph, it isn’t clear if HH Mettur Swamigal attended the centenary event along with HH Jayendra Saraswathi Swamigal or not….It would have been a great scene to remember ….

  1. HIS HOLINESS SRI SRI SRI METTUR PERIAYAVA sacrificed every thing for HIS HOLINESS SRI SRI SRI MAHAPERIYAVA KARUNAMURTHI. He is also one among them who clearly understands that SRI SRI SRI KARUNAMURTHI IS A real avatar of LORD PARAMESWARA AND HOLY MOTHER KAMAKSHI AMMAN.
In poorvasrama HIS HOLINESS SRI SRI SRI METTUR SWAMIGAL completed B.E in chemical engineering from Annamalai University,Chidambaram with excellent academic record.

HIS HOLINESS SRI SRI SRI METTUR SWAMIGAL travelled all over india by padayathra which is not at all
    Imaginable .

  2. In Sri. K. vedamurthy’s article on HH Mettur SwamigaL, I think that he was mentioning about Sri. Ra. Ganapati having attended the centenary function, where he donated his purse immediately to the two institutions. I remember Kaki carrying a writeup on the occasion. If nothing private, can Sri. Vedamurthy share what Sri. Ra. Ganapati wrote in his letters to Sri. Vedamurthy? It may contain some Gems on Adi Sankara and Maha Periyava. Sri. Ganapati Anna hardly wrote much in his final years, except one article in Kalki, where he mentioned about a Universal Manthra given to everyone by Maha Periyava: “Am Bhagavaha”, i worship You, Oh Bhagavan! Jaya Jaya Shankara, Hara Hara Shankara!

  3. Dear Mahesh,

One small HTML correction to do is to open in a new window whenever someone clicks a link. Right now, if I click on the above link about Kuvalaya swami, it closes this window and I have to come back. Ideally, the Mahaperiyava blog needs to be available at all times…

    Mahaperiyava potri!

    Raghavendra

  4. I wanted to know where I could find the book in English “In the presence of the Divine”..I googled it and found the article in “The Hindu”..

    http://www.thehindu.com/books/divine-experiences/article3257855.ece

Also, where does Kuvalaya svami reside at this time?

    • I believe you guys are curious to know about Kuvaliakkal Swami. I guess it is misspelt as Kuvalya Swami. I have interacted with both Sri Mettur Swamigal & Kuvaliakkal Swamigal.

Sri Kuvalikkal Swamigal is also an engineer by training and took sanyasa from Mahaswami. He is also known as Thiagu swamigal.

Both used to stay behind Mahaswami Adishtanam in adjacent rooms.
Kuvalikkal Swamigal now lives in Orikkai Manimantapam (near Kanchipuram).

  5. whichever way you address it does not matter. swamigal is swamigal by whatever name you call Him. it is neither acquaintance nor age but it is love let us take it so. i have already mentioned to the editor of the articles some of the factual errors like mettur swamigal son of Krishnaswami iyer. HH is the son of Ramachandra iyer, whose father was krishnaswami iyer etc. i doint think any photo is available on Mettur swamigal during centenary functions.

  6. Can this article be named as “An Article on Mettur Swamigal”. I find one of the senior devotees in this forrum to refer to mettur Swamigal just in the same way this article has been addressed. We cannot take such liberties by age or acuaintance. Hara hara Shankara Jaya Jaya Shankara.

    • see the double quotes around Mettur? It is intended to convey our love for Him – those quotes implies HH too! Pl go back to all my postings about Him. I have ALWAYS addressed him HH Mettur. If you really go by the books, even HH MEttur is wrong. Mettur is not the sanyasa name. Point is we respect Him so much and at times we call Him fondly in different ways…I have heard 100s of people in Kanchi Matham calling Mahaperiyava as “andha kizham anga okkanthindu yellathayum kettundirukku!” – this statement does not mean these people do not respect Mahaperiyava – it is just love….Point noted…But don’t take too seriously!

  7. DEAR MR MAHESH , I HAVE NOT HEARD FROM YOU ON THEPERMANALLUR ANNADANA SIVAN
PL PUT YOUR EFFORTS TO TRACK MORE DETAIL ABOUT HIM . HE WAS GREAT DEVOTEE OF MAHAPERIYAVA WE SHOULD NOT FORGET HIM . THIS IS MY HUMBLE REQUEST

    • Thaepperumanallur Annadana Sivan was Karma Yogi who conducted Annadhana during big festivals, and where ever Kanchi Mahaswami camped. There are references available in “Jagadguru Divya Charitram” book. Mahaswami himself quotes Sivan’s technique of preserving food those days with out any refrigerator. His Annadhanam during Kumbakonam Mahamaham was a great effort. Sivan was neither a landlord nor a rich man, but he fed so many thousand people. When Sri Sivan died, Mahaswami said “Sivan attained Mukthi”

    • Dear Sri rajagoplan,

Do you mind sending me an email to mk.netid@gmail.com about what you are waiting on me? I don’t recall any email about this and I am bit confused…..

      Thanks
