நம்மில் விளக்கு ஏற்றும் பலர் ஏதோ சம்பிரதாயத்துக்காக விளக்கு ஏற்றுகிறார்களே தவிர, அதன் நுட்பத்தை அறிவது இல்லை பொதுவாக விளக்கு ஏற்ற எண்ணை, திரி, தீ வேண்டும். இது மூன்றும் முக்கியம் என்பதன் உண்மைக் காரணம்.மேற்கண்ட மூன்றையும் திரும்பச், திரும்பச் சொன்னால் எண்ணை, திரி, தீ என்பது எண்ணைத் திருத்தி நல்வழிப்படுத்து கடவுளே என பொருள்படும். பல மகான்கள், ஞானிகள், யோகிகள் கூட நம் வள்ளலார் கூட ஒளி வடிவமாய் மறைந்ததாக கூறுவார்கள். கிருஸ்த்தவத்தில் கூட மெழுகின் ஒளியையே மேன்மையாக கருதுவர். பொதுவாக பலவகை, எண்ணையில் விளக்குகள் இட்டாலும் முக்கியமாய் பசு நெய்யினில் இடுவது மிகவும் சிறப்பு. இல்லாவிடில், நல்லெண்ணெயில் இடுவது சிறப்பு இதன் மூலம் இருளை அகற்றுவதோடு மட்டுமில்லாமல் அந்த தீப நெறியானது மனித உடலில் பல சுவாச கோளாறுகளை அகற்றும் என இந்நாளில் விஞ்ஞானமும் கூறுகிறது.
“பௌர்ணமியன்று விளக்கேற்றினால்” ஒவ்வொரு மாதத்திலும் வரும் பௌர்ணமியன்று திருவிளக்கேற்றி வழிபடுவதன் மூலம் சிறப்பான பலன்கள் ஏற்படும் என்று முன்னோர்கள் சொல்லியிருக்கிறார்கள். சித்திரை மாத பௌர்ணமியன்று விளக்கேற்றினால் தான்யம் பெருமளவில் கிடைக்கும். வைகாசி மாத பௌர்ணமியன்று விளக்கேற்றினால் விவாக பேச்சுக்கள் முடிவாகி மனநிம்மதியைக் கொடுக்கும். ஆனி மாத பௌர்ணமியன்று விளக்கேற்றினால் புத்திர பாக்கியம் ஏற்படும். புரட்டாசி மாத பௌர்ணமியன்று விளக்கேற்றினால் பசுக்கள் விருத்தியாகும் . ஐப்பசி மாத பௌர்ணமியன்று விளக்கேற்றினால் பசிப்பினிகள் நம்மை விட்டு அகலும். கார்த்திகை மாத பௌர்ணமியன்று விளக்கேற்றினால் ஐஸ்வரியம் பெருகும், நிலைத்த புகழ் ஏற்படும். மார்கழி மாத பௌர்ணமியன்று விளக்கேற்றினால் துன்பம் அகலும் .இன்பங்கள் வந்து சேரும் . பங்குனி மாத பௌர்ணமியன்று விளக்கேற்றினால் தர்ம புண்ணிய சிந்தனைகள் அதிகரிக்கும்.
* தை மாதத்தில் ஏற்றினால் வெற்றியைப் பெறுவர்.
* மாசி மாதத்தில் ஏற்றினால் பாவங்கள் போகும்.
* பங்குனி மாதத்தில் ஏற்றினால் தர்மசிந்தனை பெருகும்.
* சித்திரை மாதத்தில் ஏற்றினால் தான்யத்தைப் பெறுவர்.
* வைகாசி மாதத்தில் ஏற்றினால் தனத்தைப் பெறுவர்.
* ஆனி மாதத்தில் ஏற்றினால் கன்னியைப் பெறுவர்.
* ஆடி மாதத்தில் ஏற்றினால் ஆயுளைப் பெறுவர்.
* ஆவணி மாதத்தில் ஏற்றினால் புத்திரனைப் பெறுவர்.
* புரட்டாசி மாதத்தில் ஏற்றினால் பசுவைப் பெறுவர்.
* ஐப்பசி மாதத்தில் ஏற்றினால் அன்னத்தைப் பெறுவர்.
* மார்கழி மாதத்தில் ஏற்றினால் பிணி விலகும்.
ஒரு முகம் ஏற்றினால் – நினைத்த செயல்கள் நடக்கும்
இரு முகம் ஏற்றினால் – குடும்பம் சிறக்கும்
மூன்று முகம் ஏற்றினால் – புத்திரதோஷம் நீங்கும்
நான்கு முகம் ஏற்றினால் – செல்வம் பெருகும்
ஐந்து முகம் ஏற்றினால் – நற்பலன்கள் உண்டாகும்.
விளக்குத்திரி தரும் பலன்கள்
1. பஞ்சுத்திரி – வீட்டில் மங்களம் நிலைக்கும்.
2. தாமரைத்தண்டுத்திரி – முன்வினைப் பாவம் நீக்கும். செல்வம் தரும்.
3. வாழைத்தண்டுத்திரி – தெய்வ குற்றம் நீக்கி மனச் சாந்தி தரும். புத்திரபேறு உண்டாகும்.
4. வெள்ளெருக்கன் பட்டைத்திரி – வறுமையைப் போக்கும். கடன் தொல்லை தீரும். பெருத்த செல்வம் சேரும்.
விளக்கேற்றும் திசைகள்
1. வடக்குத்திசை – தொழில் அபிவிருத்தி. செல்வம் சேரும்.
2. கிழக்குத்திசை – சகல சம்பத்தும் கிடைக்கும்.
3. மேற்குத்திசை – கடன்கள் தீரும். நோய் அகலும்.
4. தெற்குத்திசை – இந்த திசையில் தீபம் ஏற்றக்கூடாது
விளக்கேற்றும் எண்ணெய் வகைகள்.
1. பசு நெய் – மோட்சம் கிடைக்கும். பாவங்கள் தீரும். மகாலட்சுமி அருள் கிடைக்கும்.
2. விளக்கெண்ணெய் – குடும்ப சுகம் சகல சௌபாக்கியமும் கிடைக்கும்.
3. இலுப்பையெண்ணெய் – குலதெய்வ அருள் கிடைக்கும். முன்னோர் சாபங்கள், முற்பிறவிப் பாவங்கள் நீங்கும்.
4. நல்லெண்ணெய் – கடன்கள் தீரும். நோய்கள் நீங்கும்.
5. தேங்காயெண்ணெய் – வினாயகரிற்கு மட்டும் தான் இதில் தீபமேற்ற வேண்டும். திருமணத்தடை நீங்கும்.
6. முக்கூட்டு எண்ணெய் – பசுநெய், விளக்கெண்ணெய், இலுப்பையெண்ணெய் மூன்றும் சமஅளவில் கலந்தது முக்கூட்டெண்ணெயாகும். இதில் தீபம் ஏற்றுவதால் தேவ ஆகர்~ணம் குடும்பத்தில் அமைதி உண்டாகும். செல்வம் சேரும்.
ஐந்தெண்ணெய் தயாரிக்கும் போது வேப்பெண்ணெய் சேர்க்கக்கூடாது. பசுநெய்யுடன் நல்ணெ;ணெய் கலப்பதும் தவறானது. எந்த காரணத்தைக் கொண்டும் கடலையெண்ணெய், சன் ஆயில் கொண்டு தீபம் ஏற்றக்கூடாது. இதனால் தெய்வ சாபம், தரித்திரம் உண்டாகும்
காலை 6 மணி முதல் 7 மணி வரை வீட்டில் தீபம் ஏற்றுவது சர்வ மங்கள யோகம் தரும். விளக்கேற்றி வைக்கிறேன் விடிய விடிய எரியட்டும் நடக்கப்போகும் நாட்களெல்லாம் நல்லதாக நடக்கட்டும் என்பது வழக்க தீபம் என்பது ஒளியைக் குறிக்கும், அனைவருக்கும் நன்மையைக் கொடுக்கும் அதனால் தான் பலதரப்பட்ட மதங்களும் தீபத்தை பல விதங்களில் வணங்குவது வழக்கம். குறிப்பாக, இந்து மதத்தில் காமாட்சியம்மன் விளக்கு ஏற்றுவார்கள். பல பரிகாரங்களுக்கும், நன்மைகளுக்கும் பலவகை எண்ணெய்களில் விளக்கேற்றுவதை அறிகிறோம். இன்றைய அனைத்து மின்சார விளக்குகளும் ஒளியை கீழ்நோக்கித்தான் தருகின்றது. ஆனால் ஒளியேற்றும் தீபங்கள் மட்டும் சுடர் மேல்நோக்கி இருக்கும் சூட்சமமே வாழ்வில் நாமும் மேல்நோக்கி மேன்மையடைய வேண்டும் என்பதைக்குறிக்கும். விளக்கேற்றுவதில் கூட பல வியக்கும் தகவல்கள் உள்ளது. ஆலயங்களில் விளக்கேற்றுவதற்கும், வீடுகளில் விளக்கேற்றுவதற்கும் கூட சிலவித்தியாசம் உண்டு. உங்கள் வீட்டில் காமாட்சியம்மன் விளக்கேற்றும் போது அதனுடன் சேர்த்து சிறிய அகலில் ஆண் துணை விளக்கு ஏற்ற வேண்டும். எலுமிச்சம் பழம், வாழைப்பழம் மற்றும் மாவிளக்கு என பல வகையில் விளக்கு ஏற்றுவது வழக்கம், திரி போடுவதில் கூட பல விளைவுகள் இருப்பதாக கூறப்படுகிறது.
Most of us today are lighting lamp for the custom sake. We don’t know the meaning of lighting the lamp. For lighting a lamp we need oil (Ennai), Cotton String (thiri) and Fire (Thee), When we repeat all the three one after other in Tamil we get Ennai thirithee which means Changing myself. So the meaning of the lighting lamp is to pray god change and uplift us in the spiritual path. Many saints and yogis like vallalar have been mingled with Divine light. Even in Christianity Lighting candles is considered as a holy one. Though we light the lamp with various oils it is good to light the lamp with Cow Ghee. Otherwise we can light the lamp with Gingely oil which will not only remove the darkness but also removes some of the respiratory problems in our body.
Our Ancestors has described that we get special benefits when we light lamp on Poornima (Full moon day). For each month Poornima we have specific benefits.

Directions of lighting the lamp and its benefits
The direction mentioned below is the direction in which the light has to be faced.
| East | Will obtain all the wealth. |
| West | Removal of Debts and diseases |
| North | Increase in the business and acquire Wealth |
| South | The lamp must not be facing this direction. |
Benefits of lighting the lamp in different oils
| Cow’s Ghee | Will get moksha, Removal of all the sins and get the blessing of goddess Mahalakshmi |
| Castor oil | Family will get all the prosperity |
| Avacado/ Butter fruit oil | Will get the blessing of Kula deivam , Removal of sins of ancestors and from previous birth |
| Gingely oil | Removal of debts and diseases |
| Coconut oil | This oil is used only to light the lamp for lord Vinayaka to remove the obstacles in marriage. |
| Mukkuttu oil ( equal proposition of ghee, Gingely and Avacado/Butter fruit oil) | Peace in the family and the increase in the wealth |
Do not mix Ghee with Gingely oil. It is not the correct way.
Do not use ground nut oil/ sunflower oil for lighting the lamps.
Lighting the lamp between 6 AM to 7 AM will bring prosperity to the family. Lighting the lamp will bring prosperity throughout our life and that’s why worship of light is carried out in various religion in various forms. Generally in Hindu religion we use kamakshi amman villaku to light the lamps. In today’s scientific world all the electrical bulbs provides the light downwards whereas the lamps is providing the light upwards which signifies that we must think positive and uplift ourselves throughout our life to attain the oneness. There is a difference in lighting a lamp in temples and lighting a lamp in home. When we lit a kamakshi amman lamp , we must also lit a lamp in a agal known as thunai vilakku. lamps can be lit using lemons, Banana etc

Really wonderful information – just some humble thoughts of mine.
1) Lighting seasme oil lamp near Thulasi madam ( Thulasi pot ) at the back yard is supposed to prevent snakes and other venomous creatures from entering the house.
2) It is a practice to light 2 lamps at the doorstep during evening Sandya kaalam till oil in lamp runs out in Karthigai month (Nov-Dec).
3) It is a practice to light 2 lamps at the doorstep during morning 5:30 a.m. till the oil in lamp runs out in Margazhi month ( Dec – Jan).
4) In old houses, there used to be small triangular shelf at 3 feet hight from ground level on both sides of the front door – lamp is light daily and kept here which serves the purpose of light for both people coming in and going out as well as for people in the street.
5) The lamp shape itself is different in different parts of India – While it is without any ‘mukham’ or motiff in north india style, it has pot shape in Karnataka ( uduppi lamp ), hamsa mukham in Andra and Thondai nadu, flat kumbam ( kuttu vilakku ) in Cholanadu and Pandiya nadu and ‘Thandu’ mukham in kerala style lamps.
6) If you light neem oil outside the house in morning 5- 7 and evening 5 – 7 – you can ward off mosquitoes in the house.
7) The Agal or earthern flat lamp shape is same across all India.
8) Before lighting lamp, you should clean your hands and legs with water and approach the lamp with devotion – at the moment of lighting the lamp, the following sloka should be uttered – ‘Deepam Jyothim Parabramham – Deepam Jyothim Parayanam – Sandhya Deepam – Harathe Papam – Deepam Jyothim Namosthuthe’. ( This sloka is slightly different in Andra pradesh).
9) The Thiruvannamalai Deepam is an important light festival in Tamilnadu – it is light to produce heat which will drive the wind out of the rain clouds and provide rain without cyclone. The Vaishnavas of North Arcot district consider the Thiruvannamalai hill as the form of Sudharsana Chakra and the Deepam as the Maha Jwala that Sri Sudharsana emits.
10) In Garuda purana, donating lamp to temple, sadhus and deserving people will provide light to the departed soul during its trasit in Yama Loka.

Whenever such info is given, it is better to give unambiguous clarity. For example, the directions of lighting lamp with its benefits are given, but it would be better if it is clarified whether the lamp should be placed in that direction OR the light should face that direction.
in the religious context, when a direction is mentioned, it is always the “facing” direction.
nowadays people light lamps with a single nozzle pointing upwards which is not east west, north or south. The light when lit will point towards the upward direction. I dont know whether lighting this lamp is correct. Can someone clarify.
