Never knew that he is an artist and a periyava deovtee. He did a great job with the painting. It seems that he drew this on the back cover of his math notebook when he was at school…..I did not understand the meaning of the ven paa.

Whether it was really crazy Mohan who drew the picture and composed this veNpa or not, someone who was crazy with his or her devotion to the Mahaswami had drawn and composed…And, it has inspired so many people to absorb the energy in the drawing and reflect on the meaning of the veNpa…
I worked in Sundaram Clayton from 1995-2004. I came to kanow that Mr. Mohan also worked there. I have seen a nice drawing of Hanuman in “Purchase” department and was told that it was Mohan’s drawing. Is it true sir?

அறிந்துகொள்ள இயலாதவரே எனும் பொருள் ஒருவகையில் சரிதான் என்றாலும் இங்கு பொருத்தமாக இல்லை.
ஏனெனில் அதற்கு துணைச் சொல்லாக ‘காப்பில்’ என இருக்கிறது.

Yes. I heard about his artistic and “Venba” skills during Choclate Krishna’s 400th show. Also heard that he drew a glass painting of Shri. Ramana Bhagawan. His painting collections are available in his website.

அரியவா – சாதாரணமாக அறியப்படாதவர் (It is rare to see such a person)
அரனவா- சிவனைப்போன்றவர் சிவன் உணவு உடை உறைவிடம் என அனைத்திலும் எளிமையின்
சின்னம். (simple). அண்டிய பக்தர்களை தன்னுடன் இணைத்துக் கொள்பவர் (He is like
the God Sivam, who is simple in all respect and also willing to support His
devotees)
குறியவா அன்பே கடவுள் – அன்பு ஒன்றே கடவுள் என்ற குறிக்கோளை உடையவர் (He
believes in the philosophy that Love is GOD)
பட்டுத்தறியவா விட்டு – அவர் பட்டுப்பூச்சிகளைக் கொன்று உருவாக்கப்படும்
பட்டுப் புடவை வேட்டிகளை விரும்பாதவர் எனவே அதனை ஒதுக்கியவர் (He is against
Silk sarees and other clothing since they are made by killing the silk
worms)
வறியவா கட்டும் கதரவா கட்டும் பெரியவா – ஏழை எளியவர்கள் அணிகின்ற கதராடையினைக்
கட்ட விரும்புபவர் (He is willing to wear only cotton (kadhar) clothing)
பெரியவா – அவர் எல்லாவகையிலும் பெரியவர் மரியாதைக்குரியவர் (He is great)
பொழிப்புரை
பொதுவாக இத்தகு மனிதரைக் காண்பது அரிது. தன்னை நம்பும் அடியவர்களைத் தன்னோடு
சேர்ப்பதில் எளிமையின் உருவமான பரமசிவனைப் போன்றவர். அவரது நோக்கம் அன்பே
கடவுள் என்பதாகும். பட்டுப் புழுக்களைக் கொன்று உற்பத்தி செய்யப்படும்
பட்டாடைகளை தயாரிக்க உதவுவதால், அந்தப் பட்டு (SILK CLOTHINGS) உற்பத்திக்கான
தறியைக் கூட விரும்பாதவர் எளிய மக்கள் கட்டும் கதராடையை விரும்பிக்கட்டும்
அவர், எல்லோராலும் மதிக்கப்படும் பெருமை உடையவர்.

The meaning of the verse, as I can see, is this:
Come under the rare protective fold of Periva, who is Mahesa Himself
and whose divine message is love. Refuse silk garments and return to
cotton clothing in order to do this.

renouncing silk clothes, common man’s
wear kadar(cloth) is his wear.
Hara Hara Shankara Jaya Jaya Shankara
This is a ‘venba’ in Tamil- a four lined pattern in Tamil prosody. The second line’s last word is ‘Periyava’.The third and fourth lines mean- discard the desire for silk, ‘pattu’ opt for khadi opted by the poor.(A reference to HIS counsel to give up pattu) The first line says HE is Hari in protecting, and Haran in ‘joining’. His aim ‘kuri’ or desire ‘avaa’ is love is God.

Venba is a poem. The sketch drawn is really very beautiful as also the four line poem. Crazy makes others crazy with every thing he touches.
Venba Meaning : With the protection of Hari and with the union of Shiva, His Motto was “Love is God”. Wear Khadi (Handloom) and avoid SILK, which was Periyava’s practice.
Truly beautiful…he is multi-talented, indeed.

1 God is Love alone, of Mahaswami, who is (for ever)
intent on blending Siva and (on securing) Hari’s Protection into us.

(yielding us the good-looking costly silk worn by the rich
obtained by taking the lives of silk-worms),
(chose) the khadi, worn by the poor as His wear.
Lucid English Rendition:
1 a) Mahaswami is always intent on securing Hari’s protection for us,
and on blending Siva into us.
c) His Love alone is God.
2 a) Such a great One, He discouraged the use of loom
that generates cloth from silk obtained by killing silk-worms.

What a beautiful painting and a nice poem too..To my knowledge the poem says that .. ‘Protection of Hari (Ariyava Kappil), being one with Shiva (Aranava Serpil), Focus and Conviction that Love is god (Kuriyava Anbe Kadavul) – All about Periyava ,Left wearing Silk clothes (Pattu Thariyava Vittu).. and started wearing Cotton clothes (Kathar) only (Variyava kattum katharava kattu) …Not sure if this is the exact meaning.. someone who is really good Tamil Poetry can explain..
