Dear Maheshji,

sir, Not able to open with kind regards, R.Venkataramanan
dont know why – others are able to open and see it….sorry….
Mahesh,
I have Satish Karandikar’s rendition on sri. Puduperiyavaa nAmavali also. I can send it to you.
Thanks,
Ravi
This 108-names, as rendered by Sri. Satish Karandikar, is the original ashTottaram as used in the Kanchi maTha (that is why it is called maTha paTha – मठ पाठ). There are several other different 108-names composed by different people, which are easier to recite.
Prof. Sethuraman, Florida translated this for our sake into English.in 2008-2009. Satsh Karandikar, NJ chanted this for us. This recording is by Satish Karandikar. I have the pdf version which goes along with this chanting.
However, when we published the book, Sri. Radhakrishna sastrigal, Srirangam, corrected some of the names for us because of some grammer rules. Those are chanted differently in our book. 99% of the names are the same. 25th nAmavali changes a bit and there are minor differences in a few others.
Thanks,
Ravi
Thanks for the background. I must say that I was so lucky to meet Shri Radhakrishna Sastrigal in my last trip to India and did an interview – what a gifted person – his authority in sanskrit, ayurveda and vedanta and devi upasana – the list goes on…..
Their Holiness are gearing us up for Sri Perivaa’s 80th Jayanthi next year – 2014, for which HE had stirred this thru Mahesh. If everybody tries & practices with a little bit of effort, everyone would be very proficient.
Guru – One thing is clear – with this blog, I am stirring up lots of arguments etc 🙂 I hope I stir up something useful like you said!
“maTah pATah” means, to my knowledge, the recitation (here in this case, the Ashtottharam) done in the Mutt.
this is the perfect rendition of the ashtottara, this was recited by Shri Satish Karandikar, a great sanskrit scholar & teacher based in NJ. If fact, it has been our tradition that he recites all the ashtotarams during all our poojas & has the paripoorna blessings of Sri Perivaas.
I wish there is one similar chanting for HH Pudhu Periyava also. To me, Pudhu Periyava ashtotram is probably the second hardest namavali – it takes a good 30-45 mts for me to finish 🙂 First one being Lord Dakshinamurthy’s! Remember, I am a sanskrit-challenged guy – trying to catch up – hopefully soon!
Guru –
Amazing…..on a second thought, it isn’t surprising that it happened to you and your dedicated NJ folks who have immeasurable bakthi towards our guru parampara…..
Yes, I will take your experience as a motivation to practice these ashtotras…..
There are two versions of Sri Maha Perivaa Naamavalis. This is followed in Sri Matam Atishtanam & the other one is Samashti version. The scholar Sri Satish Karandikar who chanted says that this is ஸ்ரீ மட பாடம் (meaning Sri Matam version), that’s all. Thanks
In fact I follow the samashti version – to me, that is very close to my heart – I am able to visualize each namavali due to lesser sanskrit complexity.
