Vanjiyur is situated near Nagore (Nagapattinam) on the east coast. .
Sri Krishnananda tirtha swamigal, a Mahanth in the Kamakoti Sankaracharya Mutt at Varanasi who had the divine direction from Sri Kasi Viswanatha, to go to south and take over the administration of the dilapilated temple at Vanjiyur came to this place, acquired the Devasthanam with all its properties and placed the same under the lotus feet of Sri Kalavai Periyaval (who was a minor at that time). All these events are narrated in a registered document found in the Sub Registry, Nagur.
SriMahaperiyaval built a beautiful granite temple later in 1940s. Sri Mahaperiyaval installed a Saneeswara image (blue granite stone) in this temple, since, the most sacred Dharbha/Kusha grass is the stala-vrksha here, like the one at Tirunallar.
A Goshala was started in this Devasthanam by Srimuttt in 1892. Best quality bhasma (vibhuti), panchagavya dhoop sticks, mosquitto repellent sticks and many other value added products out of gomaya and gojala are produced here. Regular training programs are also conducted for the local women and farmers for making pachgavya products.
Most of the famous temples and mutts of tamilnadu regularly procure pure vibhuti from this tiny unit!
The temple has a solar dryer wherein the abhishega and alankara nirmalyams like flowers and fruits are properly dried and re-used for making organic products.

make use of this opportunity. I belong to Srivanjiam where Shri Mangalambika Sametha Shri Vanjinatha
Swamy Temple is located. The place according to Puranas is 1/6 higher than Kasi. The temple has a
Gupta Ganga. This is one of the places where there is a separate and exclusive Temple for Yama Dharmaraja.
This Kshethram is also famous for Karthigai Gnayiru Snanms. Sandal Tree is Sthala Vriksham.
